This is my favorite Vw in a long list of Volkswagens in the last 30 years because it's so solid and basic. I enjoy finding really good cars and bringing them to San Diego. I found this one in Simi Valley and towed it 150 miles home June 23rd 2014.Jul 02, 2014

I love this car because it has been kept mostly original . It has not been in the hands of antique dealers who detailed the car out making it unaffordable to the general public. It has never broken down on me and cranks right up and goes. These little cars where really made with pride.Oct 04, 2011

I bought this car with 64000 miles on it. I am the 2nd owner and I have had 10
Bugs and 2 Buses. This Bug is by far the best car I have ever owned. Cancer free
good solid pan, no whining in 4th gear. All rubber and seals are tight. Soon I will
repaint and a fresh 1835cc will be done for my son David Jr.Feb 03, 2011

The roller coaster ride of classic car ownership is one that everyone should take. Take this disposable item from the 1960s that has some how stood the test of time. I have spent stupid amounts of money on this thing over the last 18 months and it has yet to transport me more than 2 metres under it's own steam, yet I am keen to spend more on it to make it the car I want. Yes, there are cars with air con, cruise control and a 0 - 100km time under 30 seconds that I could have bought for less, but I don't care. It is the vehicle I always wanted.Sep 13, 2010

this is my callook bug. I own it since 1994 and it has been restored since 1997. It has a hot engine and is very fun to drive. I will always keep this car I guess, unless my son Millo wants it later on. He is now 5 years old and loves to drive it with dady.Aug 28, 2010

I bought this car practically new and actually drov it into the ground. The engine ceased on the way down east. I drove it for about 3 years and it was very cheap to drive, and it was all that I could afford at the time.Apr 01, 2010

66 VW is a classic cruiser, dropped to the ground of course, 2180 motor and a classic two tone paint job. Drove like a gocart except whem the lights failed at night of course and the brakes went out with my mom riding with me.Sep 30, 2009

Performance - Quick but not fast, top speed of about 80, 0-60 in 12 secs, great drum brakes, handles weel, but needs new front suspension bushings. Has a few squeaks because it is old, has a sun roof, but its filled in with the headliner, it painted egg white, Porsche wheels, and red leather interior with original seat belts. Gets 30 mpg, just check the oil once a wee, and drive it all day long. It is a great in town driver that fun, but wouldnt take it cross country

This is my baby, which is in desperate need of restoration. It runs great, is sound mechanically, but needs a paint job and new floor pans. Its really fun to drive, and gets alot of attention, and someday hope to restore it to its original condition.Aug 22, 2009

A perfect example of how modifyable the bug is. The added weight from the 1/8" steel body and roll cage turns the already lackluster performance into something even slower. Although it was fun to drive, it spent 1/4 of the time in a shop, making it a bad daily driver.Aug 18, 2008

Sweet Old car. Definately needs to be fixed up. Uncle gave it to me for free. Already $500 into it. Orig in/exterior and falling apart. Doesn't keep a charge though. Its fun to drive but I have to keep going in case it quits. Not the original engine, it came from a VW bus. not quite sure of the year. Good project for people with money.Jul 09, 2008

Car I learned to drive in
Broke down on a trip to Florida - threw a rod in Florence South Carolina. Two good ol' boys who owned B&B Bug in Darlington SC took me for a few hundred bucks and I broke down again in Ridgeland SC. Eventually sold it for under $100 (the tires on it were worth more than that).
One day I will hunt down the guys who ripped me off.
Took a Greyhound bus all the way to Ft. Lauderdale (24 hours sitting between a stinky ex-sailor from Norfolk VA and a rather large sweaty lady)Jul 03, 2008

For me the classic Beetle is a love affair; i started my driving career behind the wheel of a Beetle, a 1968 model. Through that car i was exposed to the world of hi performance VW's, all the different custom styles, and the simplicity the cars had.
I kid you not, i learned everything about cars on that little '68, even how to rebuild and build engines. Sadly, that car was totaled by a DUI, which led to this car's purchase. I only drove this one for two more years as a daily driver before relegating it to hobby car status, and this year i plan to register it as a full classic (plates and insurance).
The driving experience depends on what type of person you are; if you want high speed, on the rails handling, don't look here. This car has understeer until you push it too far, then you suddenly get 'snap' oversteer and swap ends. Stock performance is laughable at best; i know both this 66 and my 68 came with 1600cc engines, which put out 46 hp at best. They didn't get up to speed fast, but you'd get from point a to point b, just not quickly.
Because of the age of these cars, you don't have any of the amenities of modern cars: power steering? nope. Power brakes? Psh, dream on. Automatic transmission? Learn to drive a stick ya lazy ass :-p. Only auto these cars had was a flawed 'auto stick' that had to be shifted between ranges and would often either lock in neutral or in one range. Heating is also non-existent; the best heating system for these cars was a good set of gloves and a wool cap. You also need an ice scraper for INSIDE the car if you drive one year round
But if you get past all that, the Beetle is a fun car to drive; what other car can you drive that gets you honked at, waved at, puts smiles on kids and adults faces, and always draws a crowd wherever you go.May 22, 2008

I bought this car with the help of my Brother in law to fix up and resell. It took longer than I thought it would. Sanded it myself in the driveway and drove it to Maaco to get it repainted. Installed new interior. My dad ended up selling it for me while I was at college. Made a couple of hundred bucks. Fun to drive. Not very fast but still fun in a plain kind of way. Quaint. Wish I could do it again.Feb 01, 2008
