My car was a 1961 ID 19 actually (not listed in the categories). This was my first car. The car had a 4-speed manual gearbox - no Citromatic for me. The original engine (60 hp - no syncro on first) was replaced while I owned it with one from a 1964 Break (75 hp - syncro on first - yea!). The car was not a quick car to accelerate, but you cold drive in absolute comfort at 75-80 mph for hours. I got about 30 mpg in general driving. My car had hydropneumatic suspension and assisted brakes, but manual steering and gearchange. I had lots of fun driving the car and working on it - it needed tinkering on occasion. It was fun to play with the height of the car. I could fit an amazing amount of stuff in the car. Seats were typical French car comfortable. I wish I had kept the car, but I needed more reliable transportation at the time and had few $$ resources. The Citroen DS/ID was a truly beautiful car.Apr 14, 2008
