What should I look for when buying a used Toyota Corolla?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, with forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, lane centring assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beam headlights, and a road sign recognition system.
• Infotainment: a larger 10.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the Corolla XSE, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the gas-only Toyota Corolla at 6.7–6.8 litres per 100 kilometres combined, depending on the trim. With FWD, the Toyota Corolla Hybrid achieves fuel economy ratings of 4.7 L/100 km combined. Add on the available AWD, and those ratings go up slightly to between 4.9 and 5.3 L/100 km, depending on trim.

Which Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?

The 2025 Toyota Corolla offers these trims:

• Corolla SE: This is the sweet-spot trim in the lineup, adding a sportier character while avoiding the plain vanilla look of the base Corolla trims.
• Corolla XSE: This trim adds the larger 10.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and in Canada it is the trim where that screen is offered.
• Corolla LE: This trim adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit assist.
• Corolla Hybrid: This version adds better fuel efficiency for shoppers who want to save more at the pump.
• GR Corolla: This performance hatchback adds a turbocharged 1.6-litre three-cylinder engine, all-wheel drive, and a manual transmission.

What Toyota Corolla do most buyers choose?

The Toyota Corolla years with the most listings are 2021, 2023, and 2022.

These higher-volume years tend to attract more shoppers because they offer a strong mix of newer features, broad availability, and pricing that still sits below the newest model years. More listings also give you more choice on trim, colour, and condition.

What is the Toyota Corolla's resale value?

Most Corolla model years are down year over year, and several recent years show double-digit or near-double-digit declines. That pattern can work in your favour as a used buyer, since it opens up more room to find a well-equipped example at a lower price than before. The smallest changes are clustered in the older model years, which suggests those versions have been a bit steadier in the market.

The 2015, 2016, and 2018 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
