What should I look for when buying a used Nissan Frontier?
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360, plus adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, reverse automatic braking, rear parking sensors, and a surround-view camera with moving object detection and off-road camera mode.
- Infotainment: a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, NissanConnect connected services, and a wireless smartphone charger.
Which Nissan Frontier trim should I buy?
The 2026 Nissan Frontier offers these trims:
- Pro-4X: This is the off-road-focused trim, with standard 4WD, all-terrain tyres, Bilstein off-road shocks, an electronic locking rear differential, front and underbody skid plates, and a Terrain mode selector. It suits you if you want the most rugged setup.
- Pro-4X Luxury: This adds a 6-foot bed option, a door-to-door navigation system, and a 10-speaker Fender audio system. It is the best-value choice if you want the most equipment and the strongest premium feel.
What Nissan Frontier do most buyers choose?
The Nissan Frontier years with the most listings are 2023, 2022, and 2024.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 129 | 28.7% |
| 2022 | 92 | 26.1% |
| 2024 | 88 | 29.5% |
| 2021 | 57 | 29.8% |
| 2025 | 53 | 35.8% |
| 2018 | 48 | 35.4% |
These higher-volume years tend to be the most popular because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right trim, price, and condition. They also often represent the sweet spot between newer features and used-car pricing.
What is the Nissan Frontier's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2017 | $19,260 CAD | −16.13% |
| 2019 | $25,982 CAD | −12.09% |

| 2025 | $55,044 CAD | −2.14% |

Most Frontier model years are down year over year, which is good news if you are shopping used and want more truck for the money. The steepest drops are concentrated in older years, while newer models are also easing in price but by smaller amounts. That makes the current market especially attractive if you want a recent Frontier without paying new-truck pricing.
The 2023 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2023, 2025, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Consider waiting if:

Customers say
Overall, drivers have a favorable view of the Nissan Frontier throughout its model years. They appreciate its powerful performance, comfortable interiors, and good value compared to competitors like the Tacoma and Colorado. Key highlights include its reliability and strong towing capabilities. However, some criticisms involve outdated technology and limited rear seating space in certain models. Many owners express satisfaction with the Frontier as a dependable and rugged choice for both daily use and off-road adventures.

Nice versatile truck with good leg room on the back seats for a midsize truck and a good simple V6 engine. Amazing truck.

Cars feature are outstanding and seems like a great value compared to other comparable mid-size (Taco, Ranger, Colorado, Canyon, etc). Wish the backseat was roomier/more comfortable for passengers, but its not bad at all. Wireless charging pad seems to heat up quick, but could be due to my phone case. Excellent mpg on highway.

overall
The 2026 Nissan Frontier deserves more consideration than it gets, but it still has some big flaws.
The Frontier is built on bones that date back more than two decades. Nissan re-skinned this midsize pickup truck for the 2022 model year, carrying over its relatively new powertrain and primarily changing only what you can see and touch, which is why it drives more like an old-school truck than most of its rivals. Nevertheless, Nissan has continually improved the Frontier, a process that continues for the 2026 model year with extra standard equipment, including a newly standard drive mode selector.
Verdict: We like the 2026 Nissan Frontier despite its old-school nature. It feels solid, it's simple, it exudes quality, and it's reasonably fuel efficient. Plus, it can tow more than a Toyota Tacoma. An obtuse digital assistant and a concerning crash-test rating are primary reasons to consider alternatives.
