What should I look for when buying a used Mercedes-Benz G-Class?
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: the 2025 model includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, park assist, a 360-degree camera system, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, safe exit assist, traffic sign recognition, Pre-Safe, route-based speed adaptation, automated lane centring, and an emergency-stop feature.
- Infotainment: MBUX infotainment with two 12.3-inch screens, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, augmented reality navigation, a Transparent Hood camera view, and a Burmester 3D surround sound system with Dolby Atmos audio enhancement tech.
Which Mercedes-Benz G-Class trim should I buy?
The 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class offers these trims:
- G 550: The base model brings the turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six, mild-hybrid assistance, nine-speed automatic transmission, permanent 4WD with locking front, centre, and rear differentials, plus the modern MBUX cabin tech and the G-Class's signature boxy design. This is the best-value trim if you want the core G-Class experience.
- AMG G 63: This performance model adds the twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8, stronger acceleration, AMG Active Ride Control suspension, and a more aggressive on-road and off-road character. It suits you if you want the most powerful and most feature-rich gasoline G-Class.
What Mercedes-Benz G-Class do most buyers choose?
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class years with the most listings are 2022, 2021, and 2020.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|

| 2021 | 62 | 29% |
| 2020 | 56 | 26.8% |
| 2023 | 43 | 39.5% |
| 2019 | 38 | 23.7% |
| 2018 | 37 | 21.6% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare and a better chance of finding the right colour, mileage, and price combination. They also sit in the sweet spot where newer features and broader availability overlap.

top of the line suv with power, sophistication and smart features. the dynamic of creating a vehicle that is strong, sturdy and can be utilized for a casual drive as well as offroading is attractive to me. the vehicle is a higher level suv and the only downfall i see is the price but these vehicles will run many miles if properly serviced .

Mercedes-Benz G-Class test drive
overall

Mercedes-Benz’s inimitable G-Wagen brings luxury to the wilderness.
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is unique in the automotive world. It combines the glitziness of the Cadillac Escalade, the off-road capability of the Range Rover, and the militaristic aesthetic of the Hummer with typical Mercedes luxury. For 2025, the G-Class gets a refresh highlighted by updated powertrains and tech.
Note that specifications cited in this review are for a first drive of models for the U.S. market. While elements such as powertrain specifications are unlikely to change, Canada-specific packaging details for the 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class have not been finalized as of this writing.
Verdict: The new G-Wagen is rougher around the edges than other luxury SUVs, but it still delivers when it comes to off-road capability and creature comforts.
