What should I look for when buying a used Mercedes-Benz C-Class?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: automatic emergency brake assist, blind-spot monitoring with safe exit assist, a driver-attention monitor, park assist, Pre-Safe, and Pre-Safe Sound.
• Infotainment: an 11.9-inch touchscreen with the MBUX infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada fuel-economy ratings for the 2022 Mercedes-Benz C300 are 9.9 litres per 100 kilometres in city driving, 7.1 on the highway, and 8.6 combined.

Which Mercedes-Benz C-Class trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class offers these trims:

• C 300 4Matic: the C 300 4Matic sedan is the core 2022 choice, pairing the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, nine-speed automatic, and 48-volt mild-hybrid system with standard 4Matic all-wheel drive; it suits buyers who want the main C-Class experience with strong equipment.
• C 43: the Mercedes-AMG C43 adds the more powerful turbocharged 2.0-litre engine with 402 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, plus quicker acceleration for shoppers who want the sportier performance option.

What Mercedes-Benz C-Class do most buyers choose?

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class years with the most listings are 2018, 2017, and 2019.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right trim, colour, and equipment mix. They also often sit in a sweet spot between newer technology and lower used-car pricing.

What is the Mercedes-Benz C-Class's resale value?

Most model years in the C-Class lineup are down year over year, which is good news if you are shopping used and want more value than you would have seen a year ago. The sharpest drops are concentrated in the newer model years, while a few older examples have fallen by smaller amounts. One model year is moving in the opposite direction, which suggests stronger demand for that version.

The 2021, 2018, and 2023 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Mercedes-Benz C-Class safe?

• 2022: 7/10
• 2017: 10/10

The 2022 Mercedes C-Class does get an array of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS)—many of them as standard equipment.

For the safest used buy, the 2017 model posts the highest confirmed score of 10/10.

Should I buy a used Mercedes-Benz C-Class now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −16.56% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −26.51%.
• Deal availability: The 2024 model has 34.2% good and great deals.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The C300 uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, and it works with a nine-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.
• Tech: Even a C300 with zero options gets a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and 11.9-inch touchscreen, and keyless entry and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard as well.

• Starting price: Pricing starts at $56,700 for a Mercedes-Benz C 300 4Matic sedan.
