The Kia Sportage's current nationwide average price is $24,864 CAD, and its lowest point over the past year was $23,953 CAD. Recently, prices have come down for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.

Is the Kia Sportage a good car?

Yes — the Kia Sportage is a strong used SUV pick if you want comfort, space, and a long list of features across the lineup. The all-generations owner rating is 4.5/5 across every model year in the data.

What should I look for when buying a used Kia Sportage?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, lane following assist, Highway Driving Assist, a surround-view camera system, and the blind-spot view monitor.
• Infotainment: a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus SiriusXM satellite radio.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada fuel economy ratings for the non-hybrid Sportage are 8.3 litres per 100 kilometres combined (9.3 city, 7.0 highway) with FWD and 8.9 L/100 km combined (9.9 city, 7.8 highway) with AWD. The other powertrain options are more efficient: the Sportage Hybrid is rated at 6.7 L/100 km combined, and the plug-in hybrid gets up to 53 kilometres of all-electric driving.

Which Kia Sportage trim should I buy?

The 2026 Kia Sportage offers these trims:

• LX: The entry point with the 2.5-litre engine, six-speed automatic, and standard 12.3-inch touchscreen; a good fit if you want the lowest-priced way into the lineup.
• LX AWD: Adds all-wheel drive to the LX formula for extra traction in everyday driving.
• X-Line: Adds off-road appearance touches, different front and rear bumpers, SynTex upholstery with tread-like stitching, and all-season tires on 19-inch wheels.
• EX: Adds more equipment than the lower trims and is part of the lineup’s value-focused middle ground.
• EX Premium: Adds 19-inch wheels and sits as the best-value trim for shoppers who want a richer feature set without moving to the top end.
• X-Line Limited: Adds the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Harman Kardon premium audio, a head-up display, and digital key functionality.

What Kia Sportage do most buyers choose?

The Kia Sportage years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right trim, colour, and price. They also often sit in the sweet spot between newer features and used-car value.

What is the Kia Sportage's resale value?

Most Sportage model years are down year over year, and many of the declines are double-digit drops. That pattern is favourable if you are shopping used, because it opens up more room for value compared with newer pricing. A few years are falling by smaller amounts, which suggests some versions are softening more slowly than others.

The 2014, 2016, and 2025 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Kia Sportage safe?

• 2026: 10/10
• 2023: 7/10
• 2022: 8/10

The 2026 Sportage includes standard driver-assist features such as adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and lane following assist.

For the safest used buy, the 2026 model posts the highest confirmed score of 10/10.

Should I buy a used Kia Sportage now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −8.56% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −11.59%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 36.5% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 34.6%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $29,077 CAD. The Kia Sportage offers a spacious cabin and a practical, family-friendly layout that suits everyday use.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The 2026 Sportage is available with conventional gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrains, and the non-hybrid models use a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 187 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque.
• Tech: A 12.3-inch touchscreen is standard, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standard, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is joined to the touchscreen on the X-Line Limited trim.
• Safety: Higher trim levels also feature the Highway Driving Assist system, which adds automated lane centring.
• Starting price: Pricing starts at $35,566 CAD for a FWD Sportage LX.

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
