What should I look for when buying a used Hyundai Kona?

Key things to evaluate:

• Fuel efficiency: The base engine’s Natural Resources Canada fuel economy ratings range from 7.5 to 8.6 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, depending on the trim and whether you’ve checked the AWD option box. Turbos clock in at 9.0 L/100 km combined with standard AWD.

Which Hyundai Kona trim should I buy?

The 2026 Hyundai Kona offers these trims:

• Essential: The entry trim brings the 2.0-litre engine, CVT, 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, BlueLink connected services, and a strong standard safety suite. It suits you if you want the most affordable way into the Kona with a broad equipment list.
• Preferred: This trim adds adaptive cruise control and a system that can brake to avoid collisions when making a left turn across traffic or when an oncoming vehicle is headed straight for the Kona. It is the best-value trim if you want a stronger mix of convenience and safety equipment.
• N Line: The N Line adds the turbocharged 1.6-litre engine, eight-speed automatic, 12.3-inch digital driver display, two 12.3-inch screens side by side, Bose premium sound system, on-board navigation, surround-view camera system, Remote Smart Parking Assist, Blind-View Monitor, reverse automatic braking, parking sensors, and Highway Driving Assist. It suits you if you want the most powerful and most feature-rich Kona.

What Hyundai Kona do most buyers choose?

The Hyundai Kona years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.

Higher-volume years usually attract more shoppers because they offer a wider selection of trims, colours, and price points. They also tend to be easier to compare side by side, which makes them popular starting points for used buyers.

What is the Hyundai Kona's resale value?

The Kona’s used prices are moving lower across the board, which can work in your favour if you are shopping for value. The biggest drops are concentrated in the newer model years, while the rest of the lineup also shows double-digit declines. That pattern gives used buyers more room to find a deal without moving too far back in model-year age.

The 2023, 2022, and 2024 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

• 2024: 9/10

The Kona’s standard driver assistance systems include forward collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, lane centring assist, high beam assist, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.

For the safest used buy, the 2024, 2025 and 2026 models all post the highest confirmed score of 9/10.
