What should I look for when buying a used Honda Odyssey?
Key things to evaluate:
- Fuel efficiency: According to Natural Resources Canada, the 2025 Odyssey should get 10.6 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving. Our test vehicle returned 13.2 L/100 km on the evaluation loop and averaged 9.8 L/100 km during a week of travel that included an eight-hour road trip mostly on highways.
Which Honda Odyssey trim should I buy?
The 2025 Honda Odyssey offers these trims:
- Sport: The entry trim brings the Odyssey’s core family-hauling formula and is the best-value starting point if you want the newest model year at the lowest price.
- Sport-L: This trim adds more comfort and convenience equipment for shoppers who want a more polished daily driver.
- Touring: This trim adds a richer feature set and suits you if you want a more upscale family minivan.
- Black Edition: This trim sits at the top of the range and adds the most premium presentation.
What Honda Odyssey do most buyers choose?
The Honda Odyssey years with the most listings are 2023, 2024, and 2018.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 184 | 24.5% |
| 2024 | 183 | 27.9% |
| 2018 | 182 | 27.5% |
| 2019 | 180 | 26.7% |
| 2025 | 150 | 25.3% |
| 2017 | 147 | 26.5% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you a strong mix of availability, familiar equipment, and a wide range of asking prices. More listings also make it easier to compare condition, mileage, and deal quality before you buy.
What is the Honda Odyssey's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |

| 2016 | $15,981 CAD | −20.04% |
| 2020 | $28,675 CAD | −17.77% |
| 2017 | $18,813 CAD | −17.41% |
| 2018 | $23,991 CAD | −14.08% |
| 2023 | $42,425 CAD | −12.98% |
| 2019 | $28,334 CAD | −12.34% |

| 2024 | $47,928 CAD | −9.59% |
| 2022 | $38,268 CAD | −8.47% |
| 2015 | $15,237 CAD | −7.06% |
| 2014 | $13,943 CAD | −3.4% |
Most Odyssey model years are down year over year, which is good news if you are shopping used and want more value for your money. The newer models are also seeing meaningful price drops, so recent years can be especially worth watching if you want newer features without paying new-vehicle pricing. The smallest changes are concentrated in the older model years, which suggests those examples have been moving more steadily.
The 2014, 2015, and 2022 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the Honda Odyssey safe?
- 2025: 6/10
- 2022: 8/10
- 2021: 9/10
Every 2025 Odyssey has Honda Sensing, a collection of driving-assistance systems.
For the safest used buy, the 2021 model posts the highest confirmed score of 9/10.
Should I buy a used Honda Odyssey now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −10.62% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −9.59%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 25.3% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 27.9%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2023 model has the most listings at a current average price of $42,425 CAD. The Honda Odyssey offers a spacious, family-friendly cabin with versatile seating and everyday practicality.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: Under its stubby hood, you’ll find a tried-and-true 3.5-litre V6 engine making 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. According to Natural Resources Canada, the 2025 Odyssey should get 10.6 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving.
- Tech: A new 7-inch digital driver display pairs with an analog speedometer, and the minivan adds a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a faster processor for quicker response to inputs.
- Safety: Every 2025 Odyssey has Honda Sensing, a collection of driving-assistance systems. Standard safety features include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
- Starting price: In Canada, the 2025 Odyssey comes in Sport, Sport-L, Touring, and Black Edition trim levels. Fortunately, with a slightly defeatured Sport version being the entry point instead of the 2024 Odyssey’s EX-L trim, the base price drops by $2,000 to $53,056 including destination charges and other fees.
If you're buying used today, the 2023 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

So far so good! A lot of bells and whistles that were not used to. It handles really well and our kids are happy exploring it. I just wish the acceleration was a little better for turning into traffic. Hope to keep this car for a long time.

Minivans like the 2025 Honda Odyssey are perfect for family life, but this one is falling behind its rivals.
Honda hasn’t redesigned the Odyssey since 2018, but this minivan does get a few updates that will appeal to the Odyssey faithful. They include subtle styling changes, a new 7-inch digital driver display, an updated 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, modernized USB-C charging ports, and an available smartphone charging pad. A new rear-seat entertainment system also arrives for 2025. While appreciated, these improvements don’t rescue the Odyssey from its increasingly uncompetitive position.
Verdict: The 2025 Odyssey doesn’t offer a hybrid powertrain or an all-wheel-drive (AWD) option. The updated tech merely meets minimum standards and expectations. And in a new crash-test evaluation, Honda’s minivan earns a rare low rating. Certainly, the Odyssey remains comfortable, exceptionally practical, and enjoyable to drive. But it needs a redesign, and soon.
