What should I look for when buying a used Volkswagen Tiguan?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Standard advanced safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, safe passenger exit warnings, parking sensors, automatic high beams, Emergency Assist, and post-collision braking.
• Infotainment: A digital instrument panel and a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen come standard, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a wireless phone charger.

Which Volkswagen Tiguan trim should I buy?

The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan offers these trims:

• Trendline: The base trim brings the standard digital instrument panel, 12.9-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone projection, and standard 4Motion all-wheel drive, making it the best-value choice for most shoppers.
• Comfortline: This trim adds more equipment and comfort-focused upgrades while keeping the Tiguan’s core character intact.
• Comfortline R-Line: This sport appearance package adds a more distinctive look for buyers who want extra style.
• Highline R-Line: The top trim adds a 15-inch display with native navigation, a head-up display, surround-view camera system, traffic sign reader, and illuminated VW badge and light bar.

What Volkswagen Tiguan do most buyers choose?

The Volkswagen Tiguan years with the most listings are 2025, 2023, and 2024.

Higher-volume model years usually give you more choice in trims, colours, and price points, which makes it easier to compare listings and find a well-priced example. They also tend to be the years shoppers cross-shop most often, so inventory stays active.

What is the Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?

Most Tiguan model years in the table are down by double digits year over year, which points to meaningful savings for used buyers. The pattern is broadly consistent across the range, with every listed year showing a decline rather than a gain. That makes the current market especially favourable if you want a newer Tiguan at a lower price than a year ago.

The 2014, 2022, and 2017 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Volkswagen Tiguan safe?

• 2025: 6/10
• 2024: 8/10
• 2023: 9/10
• 2022: 9/10

Standard advanced safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, safe passenger exit warnings, parking sensors, automatic high beams, Emergency Assist, and post-collision braking.

For the safest used buy, the 2022 and 2023 models both post the highest confirmed score of 9/10.

Should I buy a used Volkswagen Tiguan now or wait for the next model?
