What should I look for when buying a used Volkswagen Atlas?

Key things to evaluate:

• Fuel efficiency: We recorded 10.7 litres per 100 kilometres along our test drive route, which consisted mostly of fast-flowing driving along highways and country roads, although we dipped in and out of the city, too. While our evaluation came in a bit better than Natural Resources Canada’s 11 L/100 km combined estimate for the Execline trim, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the numbers creep higher with more city traffic thrown into the mix (rhe Comfortline trim is rated at 10.7 L/100 km combined, while the Peak Edition gets a 11.1 L/100 km combined rating).

Which Volkswagen Atlas trim should I buy?

The 2026 Volkswagen Atlas offers these trims:

• Comfortline: The entry trim starts with full-LED lighting, power-adjustable heated side mirrors, a trailer hitch, roof rails, heated and ventilated front seats, a 12-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive safety suite; it suits buyers who want the best-value starting point.
• Peak Edition: This trim adds an illuminated logo and light bar up front, all-terrain tires, unique bumpers, more rugged side sills and a rear diffuser, chrome exhaust bezels, and blackout trim pieces, plus a panoramic sunroof; it suits shoppers who want a more distinctive look.
• Highline: This trim adds 20-inch wheels, leather seating surfaces, a Harman Kardon 12-speaker premium audio system, a 360-degree surround-view camera system, and a panoramic sunroof; it is the best-value choice for shoppers who want a richer feature set.
• Execline: This trim adds 21-inch two-tone alloy wheels, R-Line exterior design elements, quilted diamond-pattern leather, massage functionality for the front seats, and a head-up display; it suits buyers who want the most upscale presentation.

What Volkswagen Atlas do most buyers choose?

The Volkswagen Atlas years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.

Those higher-volume years tend to be the easiest places to shop because they give you more inventory to compare and more chances to find a well-priced example. They also tend to attract the broadest mix of trims and equipment levels, which helps you match features to budget.

What is the Volkswagen Atlas's resale value?

The table shows broad downward movement across the Atlas range, which is good news if you are shopping used and want more SUV for your money. The declines are double-digit across every listed year, so the market is clearly rewarding buyers rather than sellers right now. The smallest changes are clustered in the newer model years, which suggests those versions are softening a bit more gradually than the older ones.

The 2021, 2024, and 2023 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Volkswagen Atlas safe?

• 2026: 8/10
• 2025: 8/10
• 2024: 8/10
• 2022: 7/10
• 2021: 7/10

Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive suite of driver assistance features is standard across all Atlas trims.
