What should I look for when buying a used Volkswagen Atlas?

Key things to evaluate:

• Fuel efficiency: The 2026 Volkswagen Atlas uses the same engine as the 2024 and 2025 models. A turbocharged 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder making 269 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque is the sole offering. It’s connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission and, in Canada, standard all-wheel drive (AWD). We recorded 10.7 litres per 100 kilometres along our test drive route, which consisted mostly of fast-flowing driving along highways and country roads, although we dipped in and out of the city, too.

Which Volkswagen Atlas trim should I buy?

The 2026 Volkswagen Atlas offers these trims:

• Comfortline: The entry trim brings full-LED lighting, power-adjustable heated side mirrors, a trailer hitch, roof rails, heated and ventilated front seats, and standard IQ.Drive safety features, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers.
• Peak Edition: This trim adds an illuminated logo and light bar up front, all-terrain tires, unique bumpers, more rugged side sills and a rear diffuser, chrome exhaust bezels, blackout trim pieces, and a panoramic sunroof.
• Highline: This trim adds 20-inch wheels, leather seating surfaces, a panoramic sunroof, a Harman Kardon 12-speaker premium audio system, and a 360-degree surround-view camera system.
• Execline: This trim adds 21-inch two-tone alloy wheels, R-Line exterior design elements, quilted diamond-pattern leather, massage functionality for the front seats, and a head-up display.

What Volkswagen Atlas do most buyers choose?

The Volkswagen Atlas years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.

Higher-volume years usually attract more shoppers because they offer a broader mix of prices, trims, and availability. That makes them easier to compare side by side when you want the best balance of selection and value.

What is the Volkswagen Atlas's resale value?

The table shows broad downward movement across the Atlas range, which can work in your favour if you are shopping used. The largest drops appear in the older model years, while the newer years are also trending lower but by slightly smaller amounts.

The 2021, 2024, and 2025 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used Volkswagen Atlas now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −17.01% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −16.8%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 31.7% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 30%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $40,798 CAD. The Volkswagen Atlas offers a spacious, family-first cabin with a roomy third row and plenty of cargo space.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The 2026 Volkswagen Atlas uses the same engine as the 2024 and 2025 models. A turbocharged 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder making 269 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque is the sole offering. It’s connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission and, in Canada, standard all-wheel drive (AWD).
• Tech: The 2026 Volkswagen Atlas comes standard with a 12-inch touchscreen running the third generation of VW’s Modular Infotainment Toolkit (MIB3) operating system. Shoppers also get a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, and six USB-C ports.
• Safety: Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive suite of driver assistance features is standard across all Atlas trims. This is a notable value proposition, particularly on the base Comfortline.
• Starting price: The base MSRP starts at $54,492 for the Comfortline trim.

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
