3.8 Overall rating
(99 reviews)Customers say
Overall, the Vauxhall Astra has built a reputation for reliability and decent performance across its various model years. Owners have consistently liked its fun driving experience, good fuel economy, and unique exterior design, especially in vibrant colors. However, many have pointed out issues such as frequent repairs, performance inconsistencies, and some handling challenges. While it’s favored as a practical and economical choice, some have noted build quality and comfort as areas needing improvement.

1994 Vauxhall Astra 1.8 16v Sport. Finished in gorgeous Pineapple Yellow! Pulls like a train yet is excellent on fuel. The build quality is surprisingly good for a mass produced car and unlike many other Astras of this age, it has no rot. It's cheap to run and insure and being pretty swift, it's great fun to drive!
Greatest Vauxhall ever made :-) Have raced about 10 of these over the years and can honestly say they have provided some of the best racing fun I have ever had. This one has a 2 litre hybrid engine made up from a Mk2 GTE and an SRI130 cavalier with Yamaha R1 carb..
The Vauxhall Astra GTE was launched back in 1983 and was a legendary piece of kit, knocking the Golf GTi right off the number one slot and winning all sorts of motorsport events especially WRC Various models were available but key players were the Astra GTE 2.0 8V 115 BHP, also available in convertible, and the beastly 2.0 16v 150 BHP red top monster. There were some early models with 1.8 litre engines but to be honest these are not worth mentioning The was also a very limited “Champion” edition which was the only GTE to come with leather seats as standard Handling is a bit iffy but can be easily sorted out with some up-rated suspension. Unfortunately time has not been kind to these cars some examples getting on for 25 years old so watch out for rust especially around the rear arches.
The Mark I Astra GTE was fairly good, and was better than the Mark II which replaced it. It did understeer if pushed but was fairly quick and reliable.
really good looking car, good performance, torque steers for fun, only problem is there rare now and 99% of them will have been thrashed to within an inch of there lives as mine was but it never let me down although it did threaten to a few times i would not hessitate in getting another one,ill take the full fat version next time thogh, the 16v
