The Toyota Tercel has earned a strong reputation over the years for its reliability, excellent fuel economy, and low maintenance costs. Owners appreciate its practicality and solid performance as a dependable commuter car. While the Tercel shines in terms of economy and ease of repair, some drivers have pointed out its lack of power and potential noise issues at higher speeds. Overall, it's viewed as an ideal choice for those looking for an affordable, no-frills vehicle.

I am writing about my 1992 Toyota Tercel. This was hands down the best car I ever owned. I bought her new and drove her to 130K in 3 years. She traveled the country with me. I never had a problem and she always started right up. I made the terrible error of trading her for a Geo Tracker. Yeah, I know big mistake. I had just moved to Florida and wanted a convertable. If you find one that is actually for sale, and you want a great cheap car, buy it!
My Tercel 4WD is an SR5 version that has been kept garaged for its entire life. No rust and everything works. All is original - no aftermarket add-ons. Repairs are inexpensive and rare. Regular maintenance provides for a long engine life. My vehicle has 95K original miles. No accidents. The value of the vehicle continues to increase as time goes one, and as examples of these wagons fade away - especially the SR5 4WD model. Visibility is great. Seats are comfortable and the upholstery (plaid) is tasteful and rare. The 4WD system is simple and can be engaged on the fly. Although my wagon has not been off-road on several occasions, I have personally witnessed similar wagons go through rivers, climb boulders and get out of sand situations with ease.
Performance - Acceleration- 0-60 in 9.8 seconds Max speed- who knows, probably 110 m.p.h. Braking- 60-0 in 5.3 seconds (yes i timed it) Handling- lets just say it won't turn on wet pavement, but otherwise its pretty good about turning at faster speeds Build Quality - Repairs- needed a little break work, brakes just gave out one day. other than that really nice. Appearance - Exterior- looked pretty nice, the green was surprisingly a nice color for the car, the stock rims, or rather hubcaps, looked horrible. Interior - The interior is pretty nice other than the plastic seats that liked to rip. Cost of Ownership - Gas mileage - anywhere from 10 mpg - 45, i think it was 55 highway, depending on how i felt like driving that day. Maintenance - little to none, other than brake problems. Fun factor - fun to drive? ABSOLUTELY, this car was the greatest, i really wish that tree hadn't killed it. Well all of my friends like to go fast, so i wouldn't recommend this little puddle jumper to them, but to everyone else i would.
My 1992 Tercel was my first car. I bought it when it was three years old with 60,000 miles on it. I Drove it for eight years until I unfortunately got into an accident totaling the car. The car had about 250,000 miles on when I had to say good bye to it. During the time that I owned my tercel It gave me literally no trouble. Just some brake work done, calipers froze up on me once. The Engine Started burning some oil at 200,000 miles, I was using about a quart every 600 miles or so at 230,000 miles. The Engine still ran great regardless. I had a 80 mile round trip commute to work for years in this car, mostly via interstate highway and I loved driving this car on the Highway. It would cruise along so smooth even at speeds in the 75 - 85 MPH rang sometimes even going 90 mph on the days I would be running late. The noise level in the cabin is a little high on the highway, but still quieter then most other cars of this class. I drove in a lot of bad snow storms in this car as well and for a car this size it handled pretty well on slippery roads. I never went off the road driving in Horrible snow storms on the interstate. It was a little tricky to change lanes on a snow covered highway. Overall this car was AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The car sat for 2 years then, I bought the car for $350 put $200 in to it, now it runs great. I have put 2000 miles on it and the odometer now reads 334500 miles. Now have a great fondness for this car. I would not hesitate to buy it again.
