The Pontiac Fiero impresses owners across its model years with its fun driving experience, unique styling, and lightweight handling. Drivers appreciate the mid-engine design, which contributes to nimble performance and good fuel economy. However, many also express concerns about the engine's power and reliability issues, including rust and mechanical repairs. While the Fiero is celebrated for its sporty appeal and customization potential, some find it lacking in practicality and comfort, especially regarding interior space and maintenance demands.

This is a totally custom build for me. I've scrapped the original 5speed manual tranny, and 2.5litre 4cylinder iron-duke engine for a massive powerhouse 3800 Series II Supercharged motor. Also swapped the transmissions to the automatic heavy-duty tranny that comes with the Series II 3800SC. The car started as a coupe model, I've swapped every body part on it for GT stuff from an 86GT, and put in all the power options, power windows, mirrors, stuff like that. No AC, no power steering, no nothing that takes power away from the wheels. I love it.
This is my second Fiero. The first model I owned was the SE and my second and current model is the GT. I LOVE this car. For something this sporty that was produced in the mid 80's, this car handles like a true sports car that it is. I am very impressed with the GT over the SE. The power. stability and sturdeness is something my last Fiero couldn'nt touch. The 140 hp V6 engine is a dream to handle. I simply can't get enough of this car. It's fun to drive and it allows me to manuever in and out of traffic with the speed and swiftness I demand. Do it yourself maintenance on this car is inexpensive when serviced accordingly. The Fiero really is an unique car. I don't think I will ever get rid of this car unleess I am forced to by circumstance. Just remember this, Take Care of It and It Will Take Care of You.
**Performance: V6 2.8 Liter, Stock exhaust (engine will be modified in the futrue). I put new Yokohama S-Drive tires on it when i bought it. Thing is like an overgrown go cart that turns like its on rails. **Build Quality: Great quality. Metal frame with plastic body, great light weight design. Car only weighs about 2500 lbs. **Appearance: Mint condition, exterior is in great shape needs a paint job. Interior: Has had 2 previor owners first owner smoked (alot). When i got it the smell was horrible. not i have gotten most of the smell out. I replaced the headliner, washed all the interior trim peices (front and back) and put new Alpine speakers in. I plan on putting new carpet in and re-upholstering the seats. **Cost of Ownership: Estimated 25-30 MPG freeway. I have replaced the water pump and headlight motor. Replaced speakers and headliner.\ **Fun Factor: Extremely fun car to drive.
Great little car, handles great, fun to drive and super quick. I had one in the 80's and had to have another one. They are a bit pricey to fix. It is hard to find one in excellent condition that hasn't been beat to death but they are out there. I found one after looking for a long time. I had to travel out of state to get it but they are out there. I would say if you can get one that isn't going to be a money pit, buy it! They are a blast to drive. Oh yeah, they are like a tank in the snow. Since the weight is over the back tires, this car drives through the deep snow with no problems! Living in Utah, that is a plus!
I found this car, and picked it up for the low price of 900 bucks a year ago. It's an old car, so I shall judge it accordingly. Power-wise, it is pretty low for a vintage sportscar, but the rear-mounted V6 does have enough grunt to move the car down the road, and the rumble is absolutely erotic compared to a modern engine. The interior is nice and simple- it's sadly cheapened up from previous-year Fieros (there are no speakers mounted in the headrests, for instance), but it is quite functional, and is a little more comfortable than a new car. Handling is merely average, but for its vintage and average state of neglect, the stock suspension takes well to decent tires, and the weight ensures that tail can throw itself out when you tell it to. (With the automatic transmission, don't expect it to stay out, it always bogged down on me when I put too much drift into it). With age, however, comes worn bones, and the example I have features lots of minor electrical quirks and a few major mechanical issues, this is the type of car that you will lose money on trying to restore; that said, you will enjoy breathing life into such an unusual example of GM earnestly trying to build a car to stand up to Porsche. As a side note, the 1986 model year did have recalls associated with engine fires- however, none of the other model years were affected, and any '86 models that haven't been serviced to the recall have burned down years ago. These cars are not powder kegs.
