Is the Nissan Frontier a good car?
Yes — the Nissan Frontier is a strong used-truck choice if you want capability, value, and a rugged character. The all-generations owner rating is 4.52/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise the Frontier for its powerful performance, comfortable interiors, and solid value. Reliability and towing ability also come up often as recurring strengths, and many shoppers appreciate the truck’s straightforward, durable personality.

The main trade-offs are the Frontier’s outdated technology in some years, limited rear-seat space, and fuel economy that trails some rivals. Those are the kinds of compromises you accept if you want a truck that feels tough, familiar, and well suited to work and weekend use.

What should I look for when buying a used Nissan Frontier?
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360, including automatic high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, reverse automatic braking, rear parking sensors, and a surround-view camera with moving object detection and an off-road camera mode.
- Infotainment: A 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, NissanConnect connected services, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Which Nissan Frontier trim should I buy?
The 2026 Nissan Frontier offers these trims:
- Pro-4X: This is the off-road-focused version, with standard 4WD, all-terrain tires, Bilstein off-road shocks, an electronic locking rear differential, front and underbody skid plates, and a Terrain mode selector. It suits you if you want the most rugged setup and the strongest trail-ready hardware.
- Pro-4X Luxury: This adds a 6-foot bed option, a door-to-door navigation system, and a 10-speaker Fender audio system. It is the best-value choice if you want the most equipment and the most upscale cabin experience in the lineup.
What Nissan Frontier do most buyers choose?

Cars feature are outstanding and seems like a great value compared to other comparable mid-size (Taco, Ranger, Colorado, Canyon, etc). Wish the backseat was roomier/more comfortable for passengers, but its not bad at all. Wireless charging pad seems to heat up quick, but could be due to my phone case. Excellent mpg on highway.

CarGurus recommends the 2023 Nissan Frontier

Summary
With 146 currently listed for sale and an average price of $42,004 CAD, 34.9% of 2023 Nissan Frontier listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Nissan Frontier 4.94 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Nissan Frontier stands out as a midsize pickup that Nissan has kept relatively simple in its second year of the current generation, adding only a few minor tweaks and mostly more standard features. That restrained approach gives it a familiar, straightforward character, while still leaving room for useful updates. It also comes across as a truck Nissan expects to keep around for a long time, which may appeal to buyers looking for a model with staying power rather than constant reinvention.
What makes the 2023 Frontier especially appealing is the combination of value and everyday appeal. The available colour choices are a nice touch, and the stereo upgrade is a genuine plus for buyers who care about in-cabin entertainment. It is also described as excellent value for money, which helps explain its broad appeal. On the other hand, it is not without drawbacks: the transmission is sluggish, and fuel economy is poor. Even so, the 2023 Nissan Frontier should suit shoppers who want a capable midsize truck with a practical feature set and a strong value proposition.
