(39 reviews)The best car I ever owned, simple, very reliable, looked good and sounded lovely, especially with the roof down. I had one for about 3 years, never serviced it, washed it and put (quite a lot) of petrol in it! It was nice to drive, had good steering and was great fun in the wet, thanks to rear wheel drive and leaf sprung rear axle. I never got the overdrive to work, which was a shame because it would quite happily tear up and down the motorways, it was a bit noisy in 4th though!
Great British car. Second MGB I've owned, first one was a '67. Great looks, lots of leg room, great sound, open air motoring, beautiful classic style. If you're caught in an EMP, you can still run around because their's no computer to go down. Easy to work on, you can reach everything under the bonnet, and the boot holds enough for a weekend jaunt.
I have had the MGB LE Roadster for 1 year, purchased from a friend. This is a very tiny sports car from a different era. It doesn't have any current contemporary cars to compare to. The styling you will like or not. I think it is sporty and classic. It handles well, the small inline 4cyl with about 90HP easily pulls the tiny car up to 80MPH on the interstate at 3200RPM so for such an old machine it can still hang. The seats are roomy and comfortable and with the top off the view is amazing. The car sounds like a true British sports car of its era. If you too tall or too large, you probably won't fit, it is that small. The engine is plucky and my particular car is strong but acceleration is not up to modern standards. Breaking on mine is a little mushy but I have been told this can be fixed. Mine is a particularly well running, rust free sample but many have long since rusted apart or driven into the ground. Parts are very inexpensive and they are easy to maintain. If you want one just find one that is rust free as possible, the rest you can find and rebuild. To adjust the valves this is the pattern: using 15/1000 feeler guage slide in between valve and bottom 13mm wrench and large screwdriver needed Value must add up to 9 When 1 is open adjust 8 3 will be open so adjust 6 7 will open you adjust 2 8 open check 1 6 open check 3 2 open check 6 5 open check 4
Handles like a dream, peppy little car given how old it is. Easy to fix but a pain to work on... requires a serious amount of knowhow or a greater amount of money to upkeep. It's a head turner wherever you go and a blast to drive. Overall a wonderful car to play around with, but I don't recommend it as an only car...
Fun, fast, noisey, sleek, classic, convertable, cheap to fix, a hoot on country roads, cheeky looks, and cheap to tax and insure. These are the reasons that I bought one of these when I was 18 instead of what seemed like the obligatory citreon saxo/nissan micra. The best thing about it though? It made my mates who who had the cars mentiooned above a little bit jelous!! The only downside to it though? It has to be that if you drive it like a wanker it will most likely kill you. I cant think of a better way to go out though... in an explosion in the quintessenntial British sports enthusiasts car!
