What should I look for when buying a used Kia Sportage?

Key things to evaluate:

• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada fuel economy ratings for the non-hybrid Sportage are 8.3 litres per 100 kilometres combined (9.3 city, 7.0 highway) with FWD and 8.9 L/100 km combined (9.9 city, 7.8 highway) with AWD. The other powertrain options are more efficient: the Sportage Hybrid is rated at 6.7 L/100 km combined, and the plug-in hybrid gets up to 53 kilometres of all-electric driving.

Which Kia Sportage trim should I buy?

The 2026 Kia Sportage offers these trims:

• LX: The entry trim uses the 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with a six-speed automatic transmission, and it is the least expensive way into the lineup.
• X-Line: This trim adds off-road appearance touches, including different front and rear bumpers, a tread-like stitching pattern for SynTex artificial leather upholstery, and all-season tires on 19-inch wheels.
• EX: This trim adds to the equipment list while keeping the Sportage’s practical, mainstream character.
• EX Premium: This trim adds 19-inch wheels and is a strong choice if you want a more upscale feel without moving to the top of the range.
• X-Line Limited: This trim adds the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a Harman Kardon premium audio system, a head-up display, and digital key functionality, making it the best-value pick for shoppers who want the richest tech package.

What Kia Sportage do most buyers choose?

The Kia Sportage years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you a wider selection of trims, prices, and equipment levels. They also tend to sit in the sweet spot between newer features and used-car value.

What is the Kia Sportage's resale value?

Most Sportage model years are down year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used and want more value than a new one. The biggest drops are concentrated in older and mid-cycle years, while the newest model years are falling by smaller amounts. That pattern suggests recent inventory is still holding closer to its original pricing, even as the broader used market for this model softens.

The 2026, 2016, and 2025 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Kia Sportage safe?

• 2026: 10/10
• 2023: 7/10
• 2022: 8/10

The 2026 Sportage includes standard driver-assist features such as adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and lane following assist.

For the safest used buy, the 2026 model posts the highest confirmed score of 10/10.
