It has some excellent features - gas mileage, appearance, a good, rear-view camera for example. It is very quiet and smooth to drive. Some of the safety features are irritating, but can be turned off. I am still learning the onboard computer; it has many features that might confuse someone not into tech, but once I have them set-up the way I want, its going to be awesome! It would be too small for anyone over 6 feet tall or of ample size, but with 33/41mpg they might still squeeze in. The hatchback reminds me of my Honda Accord as they dropped the floor to allow for more space inside. Its still new to me, but I think its going to be a good car.

Fun, cute little car. Good for small family. Good gas mileage, handles well, even in snow. Has been reliable and hasn't had any problems. AUX port makes it easy to plug in my ipod and listen to some great music. Not a bad sound system for a little car either :-)

I needed a car to get me to and from work with slick looks and this does it! There is room in back when the seats are folded down for my Shepard/Beagle. As well as a package that includes blue tooth, rear back up camera, navigation and it can read my i-pod and displays on the dash like an i-pod.

Is the Kia Rio5 a good car?

Yes — the Kia Rio5 is a strong used-car pick if you want a small hatchback with broad owner approval and a value-focused personality. The all-generations owner rating is 4.71/5 across every model year in the data.

Expert reviews rate the 2018 model among the highest across all years.

The main trade-offs are a sparse base trim, limited tech on lower versions, and the fact that the best smartphone integration is reserved for the upper trim. 28.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

Are Kia Rio5 models reliable?

Owners consistently rate the Rio5 very highly, and the expert write-up for the newest tested year praises its responsive low-end power, direct steering, and well-balanced suspension. The overall impression is of a simple, durable small car that delivers a lot of everyday usability for the money.

  • Owners rate the Kia Rio5 between 4.67 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.

For used buyers, long-term ownership risk looks manageable if you choose carefully and verify condition, especially on older examples.

What should I look for when buying a used Kia Rio5?

Across all model years, at 65.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

Model YearAccident-Free %
202384%
202284.2%
202167.6%
202069.4%
201958.5%
201868.8%
201759.5%
201657.7%
201548.3%
201452%

Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.

Key things to evaluate:

  • Safety package: forward-collision warning system with auto brake
  • Infotainment: 7-inch touchscreen with the Uvo infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Fuel efficiency: 28 mpg city and 37 highway for a combined rating of 32 mpg

Which Kia Rio5 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Kia Rio5 offers these trims:

  • LX: the entry trim focuses on value with a 5-inch touchscreen, rear-view camera, automatic headlights, and a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission; it suits you if you want the lowest-cost way into the Rio5.
  • S: this trim adds power accessories, keyless entry, heated power mirrors, cruise control, Bluetooth, an extra USB charging port, and a sliding center-console armrest with added storage, making it the best-value choice for most shoppers.
  • EX: this trim adds the 7-inch touchscreen with Uvo, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, alloy wheels, fog lights, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, leather trim for the steering wheel and shifter, upgraded cloth upholstery, dual lighted vanities, and forward-collision warning with auto brake.

What Kia Rio5 do most buyers choose?

The Kia Rio5 years with the most listings are 2019, 2022, and 2017.

Model YearTotal ListingsGood + Great Deals %
20194114.6%
20223842.1%
20173724.3%
20203625%
20213429.4%
20183218.8%

Higher-volume years usually give you more shopping choice, which can make it easier to compare condition, mileage, and pricing across similar cars. They also tend to be the years where you can find the widest mix of deal quality.

Is the Kia Rio5 safe?

  • 2018: 7/10

The 2018 Rio5 includes a forward-collision warning system with auto brake.

For the safest used buy, the 2018 model posts the highest confirmed score of 7/10.

Should I buy a used Kia Rio5 now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

  • Sweet-spot year: The 2019 model has the most listings. The Kia Rio5 offers a simple, value-first ownership experience with broad everyday appeal.

Consider waiting if:

  • Powertrain/efficiency: Every Rio gets a 1.6-liter, 4-cylinder engine producing 130 hp and 119 lb-ft of torque, and the EPA rates it at 28 mpg city and 37 highway for a combined rating of 32 mpg.
  • Tech: the base LX trim has a 5-inch touchscreen, while the EX adds a 7-inch touchscreen with the Uvo infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
  • Safety: the latest model adds a forward-collision warning system with auto brake.
  • Starting price: the $13,900 version gets you a 6-speed manual transmission.

If you're buying used today, the 2019 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for 2024 inventory to mature.
