What should I look for when buying a used BMW X5?

Key things to evaluate:

• Fuel efficiency: The 2027 BMW X5 40 xDrive is rated by Natural Resources Canada at 9.1 litres per 100 kilometres combined (9.6 city, 8.4 highway).

Which BMW X5 trim should I buy?

The 2027 BMW X5 offers these trims:

• X5 40 xDrive: The redesigned 2027 X5 launches in Canada with this single powertrain, pairing a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard adaptive damping. It suits you if you want the newest X5 with the core BMW driving character and the broadest mix of comfort and efficiency.
• X5 40 xDrive with M Sport Package: This version adds sportier exterior styling elements, M-specific 21-inch wheels, and dark blue brake calipers. It suits you if you want a sharper look without moving into the more aggressive hardware package.
• X5 40 xDrive with M Sport Pro Package: This version adds an adaptive M suspension, red brake calipers, darkened exterior trim, and a leather-wrapped sport wheel. It suits you if you want the most performance-focused appearance and chassis tuning in the lineup.

What BMW X5 do most buyers choose?

The BMW X5 years with the most listings are 2023, 2022, and 2024.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you a strong mix of availability, newer features, and pricing that still sits below the newest model years. They also offer enough inventory to compare condition, equipment, and deal quality across multiple listings.

What is the BMW X5's resale value?

Most BMW X5 model years are down by double digits year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used. The steepest drops are concentrated in older and mid-cycle years, while the newest models are falling by smaller amounts. That gives you more room to find value in recent examples without paying close to new-car pricing.

The 2026, 2024, and 2014 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
