I love my car. I love how it is a classic and no seen everyday. Its inside feels to euro. I like how Audi only imported 550 of mine with the bigger 300hp 4.2l. It has bose with heated front and rear seats. The nest AWD quattro system of any car. You can't get stuck in the snow.

We had 100,000 miles of happy motoring in this old beast, but now, it's time has passed. Next stop for this 13mpg monster is the shredder. It was a great cruiser, but fun to drive fast in too. Scariest day was when I decided to see how fast it would go - I was on a deserted desert road, straight for about 5 miles, with new tires on the car. With the transmission in Sport mode it would not shift into 4th gear until about 124mph. Just as I hit 135, the belly pan/bottom engine cover came detached and was shattered to pieces, making a huge bang like a tire blowing out. It took me about a mile to slow down to a stop, and when I went back to look for the parts, there was nothing salvagable left. Haven't driven that fast in anything else since.

I own both a 1990 and 1992 V8. Both have just over 100K. The 92 is much superior for the following reasons: the servomatic steering is easier and smoother, the 4.2 engine shows up how underpowered the 3.6 is for the 1990, and the ride was improved with better springs for a less harsh ride. They are like two different cars. The bad news for both is that they really are gas guzzlers. It seems impossible to get over 20mpg for straight highway driving and around times is scary. Ironically the 92 became a headache after having a routine timing belt service that has resulted in a clattering noise that no one seems able to solve even after redoing the job twice, including the dealership taking a stab at it; all the parts are new. Extremely disappointing because no one seems able to figure it out. The 1990, though less satisfying to drive, hasn't given me a bit of trouble in the six months I've had it. If anyone has insight into the rattling noise, let me know, but it's not the obvious suggestions.

Had a lot of money at the time being a contractor so decided owning 3 cars was a good idea, I would just get in the one with the most fuel, this was a rare car designed for racing but they had to sell some road cars first, comfy, nice V8 engine which was 2 1.8 Golf GTI`s welded together and 4WD which even for this 2ton monster meant amazing handling, like most audis the cabin ergonomics are not good for short people,
