The 2027 X5 represents the most substantial redesign in the model’s history.
The X5 was BMW’s first SUV and remains one of its most popular models today. Just over 25 years after its introduction, this midsize crossover now faces competition from the Acura MDX, Audi Q7, Genesis GV80, Lexus RX, and Mercedes-Benz GLE, among others. For 2027, the X5 gets a thorough redesign, entering its fifth generation with very different styling and tech features pulled from BMW’s new family of EVs. For the first time, there’s an all-electric iX5 as well, but we’ll cover that model separately.
