There are 324 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2026 Kia Sportage a good car?

The 2026 Kia Sportage earns an expert rating of 7.33/10.

The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

It fits well if you want a compact crossover with a polished look, useful technology, and a strong safety profile. The trade-offs are that its performance is fairly pedestrian and the X-Pro’s value proposition is underwhelming.

With 35.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is a meaningful share of attractive pricing in the market.

Is the 2026 Kia Sportage reliable?

The 2026 Kia Sportage is presented as a competent, well-rounded compact crossover with a strong warranty and a safety-focused reputation. Its non-hybrid 2.5-litre four-cylinder is described as doing just fine, and the hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains are noted as more refined thanks to their turbocharged and electrified setups.

Kia’s 5-year/100,00-kilometre limited warranty, including the powertrain, adds some peace of mind for ownership. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the base gas model is not especially efficient compared with the hybrid options, so your running costs will depend heavily on which version you choose.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Kia Sportage?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LX is the simplest version, while the X-Line models add off-road appearance touches, and the EX Premium brings 19-inch wheels. If you want the most upscale feel, the X-Line Limited adds the most premium equipment in the lineup.
• Powertrain: The gas model uses a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder with 187 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions use a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with an electric motor, with outputs of 232 hp and 271 lb-ft in hybrid form and 268 hp in plug-in hybrid form.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assist features include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and lane following assist. Higher trims add Highway Driving Assist with automated lane centring, while a surround-view camera system and blind-spot view monitor are also available.
• Infotainment: A 12.3-inch touchscreen is standard, and the X-Line Limited adds a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and wireless phone charging is standard on all but the base LX trim level.
• Fuel efficiency: The non-hybrid model is rated at 8.3 L/100 km combined with FWD and 8.9 L/100 km combined with AWD. The hybrid is rated at 6.7 L/100 km combined, and the plug-in hybrid can travel up to 53 kilometres on electric power alone.

Which 2026 Kia Sportage trim should I buy?

The 2026 Kia Sportage is offered in 6 trim levels: LX, LX AWD, X-Line, EX, EX Premium, X-Line Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point if you want the lowest starting price and the standard 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the core safety suite. It makes sense if you want the Sportage’s design and tech without paying for extras.
• LX AWD: Choose this if you want the base trim’s value but prefer all-wheel drive for added traction. It keeps the same straightforward equipment mix while adding the AWD setup.
• X-Line: This is the better pick if you want a more rugged look, since it adds off-road appearance touches and 19-inch wheels with all-season tyres. It suits buyers who care more about style than maximum value.
• EX: This is the trim to watch if you want a more balanced middle ground, since it sits above the base versions without jumping all the way to the top-end equipment. It should appeal to shoppers who want a more complete daily driver.
• EX Premium: This trim adds 19-inch wheels and moves the Sportage closer to a more upscale feel. It’s a strong choice if you want more presence without going all the way to the flagship.
• X-Line Limited: This is the most feature-rich version, with the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Harman Kardon premium audio, head-up display, and digital key functionality. It’s the best fit if you want the most technology and convenience.

Higher trim levels also feature the Highway Driving Assist system, which adds automated lane centring.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Kia Sportage?

The market looks moderate and selective, so you can shop with some confidence if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 324 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.95% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $36,965 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2026 Kia Sportage's resale value?

The current average of $36,965 CAD sits slightly below last year's $38,088 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Sportage is currently more accessible for used buyers than it was a year ago. If you plan to sell later, you should expect the market to remain sensitive to trim, equipment, and condition rather than assuming strong price growth.

For a future seller, the good news is that the Sportage still has broad appeal thanks to its styling, technology, and safety reputation. The challenge is that the current price trend points to a market where buyers have options, so well-equipped examples in strong condition are likely to hold up better than plain or less desirable trims.

Is the 2026 Kia Sportage safe?

The 2026 Kia Sportage received the highest Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it earned a five-star overall safety rating from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash testing and four stars for rollover crash performance.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assist features include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and lane following assist. The Sportage also warns you if it detects driver fatigue, reminds you to check the back seats before leaving the vehicle, and watches for oncoming cars or cyclists as you open the door.

Higher trim levels also feature the Highway Driving Assist system, which adds automated lane centring. Also available are a surround-view camera system and the blind-spot view monitor, which shows a camera feed of the blind spot in the instrument cluster when a turn signal is activated.

Should I buy a 2026 Kia Sportage or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.95% compared with last year.
• The refreshed styling and strong safety profile matter to you.

The bottom line: If you want the freshest version of the Sportage with revised styling and a strong safety story, the 2026 model is the one to target. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2026 is the better pick when you want the latest look and a market that is currently leaning in your favour.
