CarGurus Analysis: 2026 Hyundai Kona
Summary
With 438 currently listed for sale and an average price of $31,926 CAD, 34.7% of 2026 Hyundai Kona listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2026 Hyundai Kona 4 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2026 Hyundai Kona stands out as a subcompact SUV that tries to balance style, space, and equipment without losing the Kona’s familiar identity. Hyundai gave the second-generation model more room inside and greater cargo capacity, and the updated shape is still recognisably a Kona. For buyers who want a small SUV that feels more substantial than before, that added practicality is a major part of the appeal.
The 2026 model year carries over the Kona’s broad spread of features and powertrains. The base 2.0-litre engine produces 147 horsepower through a continuously variable transmission, while the N Line uses a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. Standard equipment is generous, with driver-assist features such as forward collision warning with automatic braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist, a lane centring system, and a rear seat reminder. The Essential trim also includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while higher trims add items such as adaptive cruise control, a heated steering wheel, a wide sunroof, digital key technology, and sportier styling details on the N Line.
There are still trade-offs to consider. The base engine is not especially lively, and the Kona’s strongest draw is less outright performance than the combination of useful technology, available all-wheel drive, and a cabin that is now more accommodating than before. For shoppers who want a small SUV with a distinctive look, a strong feature list, and more everyday usability than the earlier version, the 2026 Hyundai Kona makes a convincing case.

Is the 2026 Hyundai Kona a good car?
Generally — the 4/5 user rating points to a well-liked small SUV, and the 2026 Hyundai Kona’s appeal is rooted in its added interior room, greater cargo capacity, and familiar Kona identity. It is aimed at you if you want a subcompact SUV that feels more substantial than before without losing its distinctive look. The standard equipment list is also a strength, with useful driver-assist technology and a 12.3-inch touchscreen on the Essential trim, while higher trims add more convenience and style. The main trade-off is that the base engine is not especially lively, so the Kona’s strongest case is everyday usability rather than performance. 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2026 Hyundai Kona reliable?
Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2026 Hyundai Kona’s reliability case is supported by its broad carryover of features and powertrains, which suggests a familiar and established package rather than a risky redesign. Its standard safety and driver-assist equipment also adds confidence for daily use. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about complexity and more about making sure the specific vehicle you choose has been maintained properly and suits your expectations for performance.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Hyundai Kona?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 438 listings available.
Should I buy a 2026 Hyundai Kona or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2026 if:
- 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2025 if:
- It is a mostly unchanged second-generation SUV with a practical, roomy feel and standard advanced safety features.
The bottom line: The 2026 Hyundai Kona is the better pick if you want the latest version of this roomier, better-equipped small SUV and you value its balance of style and everyday usefulness. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2025 is worth a look because it delivers much of the same practical appeal and may leave more room in your budget.
