CarGurus Analysis: 2026 BMW X5
Summary
With 76 currently listed for sale and an average price of $107,394 CAD, 26.3% of 2026 BMW X5 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2026 BMW X5 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2026 BMW X5 stands out because it blends everyday luxury with the kind of driving character BMW buyers expect. BMW’s X5 has long been a rear-wheel-drive-based SUV with standard xDrive all-wheel drive in Canada, and the brand positions it as a midsize, two-row, five-passenger model that is roomy inside, has outstanding visibility, and offers generous cargo space. It is also not meant for serious off-road use; moderately challenging trails are the limit, especially on versions with larger wheels and performance tyres.
What makes the X5 especially appealing is how much it can vary in character while staying recognisably an X5. The buying guide describes newer versions as among the most dynamic SUVs in their class, with handling more precise than that of the Audi Q7 and the Mercedes GLE and sharp enough to rival the Land Rover Discovery Sport. It also notes that the model is available with multiple drivetrain configurations, including plug-in hybrid and high-performance M Sport-tuned hardware, which helps explain why it has remained such a consistent performer for BMW in Canada.
For buyers, the X5’s strengths are balanced by some familiar luxury-SUV drawbacks. The guide points to an unimpressive reliability rating overall, expensive maintenance and repairs, and poor fuel economy with V8 engines. It also mentions that BMW’s split tailgate can make it harder to reach items that have slid forward in the cargo area. Even so, the X5’s combination of comfort, space, and rewarding road manners is what keeps it distinctive.

If you find a listing below $105,745 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2026 BMW X5's resale value?
The current average of $107,132 CAD sits slightly above last year's $107,117 CAD.
That small increase suggests the 2026 BMW X5 is holding its value well in the near term. Stable pricing can be a positive sign for future sellers because it indicates steady demand rather than sharp depreciation. If the model continues to attract buyers looking for a premium midsize SUV with strong usability, resale performance should remain supported.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2026 BMW X5 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2026 if:
- 23.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2025 if:
- At $85,077 CAD, the 2025 costs less than the current year's $107,132 CAD average.
- It offers strong handling and comfort.
The bottom line: Choose the 2026 if you want the newer market position, steady pricing, and a strong satisfaction signal. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2025 is the better path because it delivers much of the X5’s core appeal at a lower average price.
