How much does the 2026 BMW X5 cost?

Prices have softened 8.84% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 70 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2026 BMW X5 a good car?

Yes — the 2026 BMW X5 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

It comes across as a midsize luxury SUV that blends style, quality, comfort, technology, and performance in a way that few rivals can match. The xDrive40i can be optioned with almost everything you could want, while the xDrive50e adds plug-in hybrid capability and 64 kilometres of electric-only range. The M60i and X5 M are aimed at performance buyers and add exclusive options for shoppers who want more from the platform.

The trade-offs are clear: ride quality is poor, standard equipment is limited, and the price climbs quickly with options. Even so, the X5 remains a strong fit if you want a substantial, well-finished luxury SUV that can play multiple roles.

34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which points to decent market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2026 BMW X5 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The X5 is presented as a well-built luxury SUV with quality materials, tight construction, and a premium feel inside. It also comes with three years of scheduled maintenance and trial subscriptions to various services, which helps soften ownership costs early on.

BMW’s own expert assessment also points to a strong overall package, with the X5 described as a capable blend of performance and luxury. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that higher-spec versions can become expensive to maintain and repair once the included coverage period ends.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 BMW X5?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from the least expensive xDrive40i to the performance-focused M60i and X5 M Competition. The xDrive40i is the value-oriented starting point, while the higher trims add more power and more exclusive equipment.
• Powertrain: BMW offers a variety of six-cylinder and eight-cylinder powertrains. The xDrive50e plug-in hybrid adds 64 kilometres of electric range, while the M60i uses a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 with 532 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque.
• Safety package: Advanced driver assistance systems are packaged in the optional Driving Assistant Professional Package. Standard equipment includes high beam assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a speed limit assistant, a driver monitoring system, a collision preparation system, post-collision braking, and parking sensors in the front, to the side, and at the rear.
• Infotainment: The BMW Curved Display combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel with a 14.9-inch touchscreen. You also get wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM 360L satellite radio, cloud-based navigation, and connected services.
• Fuel efficiency: The M60i is rated at 12.3 L/100 km combined, while the xDrive40i is rated at 9.4 L/100 km combined. The xDrive50e plug-in hybrid adds 64 kilometres of electric range.

Which 2026 BMW X5 trim should I buy?

The 2026 BMW X5 is offered in 4 trim levels: xDrive40i, xDrive50e, M60i, and X5 M Competition.

Here's the short version:

• xDrive40i: This is the best-value starting point if you want the X5 experience without jumping straight into the pricier performance trims. It can be optioned heavily, and it gives you the core luxury-SUV formula with the least expensive entry price.
• xDrive50e: Choose this if you want the most compelling efficiency story in the lineup. The plug-in hybrid setup and 64 kilometres of electric range make it the smartest pick for buyers who can charge regularly.
• M60i: This is the right choice if you want the strongest performance focus without going all the way to the X5 M Competition. It adds the V8 character, serious acceleration, and desirable exclusive options.
• X5 M Competition: Pick this only if you want the most extreme version of the X5 and are willing to pay for it. It is the top performance trim and suits buyers who prioritise power and exclusivity over value.

Advanced driver assistance systems are not standard on every trim and are bundled in the optional Driving Assistant Professional Package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 BMW X5?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it rewards shoppers who compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 70 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.84% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $106,280 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2026 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $111,131 CAD sits slightly below last year's $121,906 CAD.

That softer pricing can be good news if you are buying now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market. If prices continue to normalise, resale values could remain under pressure unless demand stays strong for well-equipped examples. Higher-trim versions may still hold appeal, but options can make them harder to price confidently on the used market.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2026 BMW X5 safe?

The 2026 BMW X5 earns the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick+ rating and a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for the driver and front passenger in a frontal impact collision.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The X5 comes standard with high beam assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a speed limit assistant, a driver monitoring system, a collision preparation system, post-collision braking, and parking sensors in the front, to the side, and at the rear.

BMW typically reserves more advanced driver assistance systems for the optional Driving Assistant Professional Package, so you should check whether a used example has that package fitted. The adaptive cruise control can also be overly cautious, and lane keep and lane centring performance can degrade away from divided highways.

Should I buy a 2026 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.84% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It offers four versions, including a plug-in hybrid with 64 kilometres of electric range.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $83,795 CAD, the 2025 costs less than the current year's $111,131 CAD average.
• It offers broad powertrain choice and strong handling.

Consider the 2027 if:

• It brings a thorough redesign with very different styling and new tech features.

The bottom line: If you want the current X5’s blend of luxury, performance, and breadth of choice, the 2026 is the better all-round pick. If price matters most, the 2025 is the more affordable route into the same nameplate, while the 2027 is the one to watch if you prefer a full redesign.
