How much does the 2026 BMW X5 cost?

Is the 2026 BMW X5 a good car?

Yes — the 2026 BMW X5 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

It stands out as a midsize luxury SUV that blends style, quality, comfort, technology, and performance in a way that few rivals can match. The xDrive40i can be optioned with almost everything you could want, while the xDrive50e adds plug-in hybrid capability and 64 kilometres of electric-only range. The M60i and X5 M are aimed at performance buyers and bring exclusive options for shoppers who want more than the standard luxury formula.

The trade-offs are clear: ride quality is poor, standard equipment is limited, and the price climbs quickly with options. Even so, the X5 remains a strong fit if you want a substantial, well-finished luxury SUV that can play multiple roles.

With 32.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 BMW X5 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2026 X5 is presented as a well-built luxury SUV with strong quality, and BMW includes three years of scheduled maintenance and trial subscriptions to various services. Its powertrains and chassis are described as capable and composed, with the xDrive40i offering better efficiency and the xDrive50e adding electric-only driving range for buyers who want to reduce fuel use.

BMW’s maintenance coverage helps soften early ownership costs, but the X5’s high purchase price and option-heavy structure can still make used ownership expensive if you choose a heavily equipped example. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is paying too much for features you may not need.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 BMW X5?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans xDrive40i, xDrive50e, M60i, and X5 M Competition. The xDrive40i is the least expensive and can be optioned with almost everything you could want, while the M60i and X5 M Competition are the performance-focused choices. Base equipment is limited, so check carefully for the features you want.
• Powertrain: BMW offers a range of six-cylinder and eight-cylinder powertrains. The xDrive50e plug-in hybrid adds 64 kilometres of electric range, while the M60i uses a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 with 532 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque.
• Safety package: The standard suite includes high beam assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a speed limit assistant, a driver monitoring system, a collision preparation system, post-collision braking, and parking sensors. More advanced driver assistance systems are packaged in the optional Driving Assistant Professional Package.
• Infotainment: You get a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen under BMW Curved Display, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM 360L, cloud-based navigation, and connected services. The system is feature-rich, but the menu structure can feel overwhelming.
• Fuel efficiency: The xDrive40i is rated at 9.4 L/100 km combined, while the M60i is rated at 12.3 L/100 km combined. The xDrive50e plug-in hybrid adds 64 kilometres of electric range.

Which 2026 BMW X5 trim should I buy?

The 2026 BMW X5 is offered in 4 trim levels: xDrive40i, xDrive50e, M60i, and X5 M Competition.

Here's the short version:

• xDrive40i: This is the best-value starting point if you want the broad X5 experience without jumping straight to the pricier performance models. It can be optioned heavily, so it suits you if you want flexibility and are willing to build it up carefully.
• xDrive50e: Choose this if you want the most compelling efficiency story in the range. The plug-in hybrid setup and 64 kilometres of electric range make it the smart pick for buyers who can charge regularly.
• M60i: This is the choice for you if performance matters most and you want the V8 character, stronger acceleration, and more exclusive equipment. It is the most indulgent mainstream X5 choice.
• X5 M Competition: Pick this only if you want the most extreme performance-focused version and are comfortable paying for it. It is the most specialised trim in the lineup.

More advanced driver assistance systems are not standard and are bundled in the optional Driving Assistant Professional Package.

That softer pricing trend suggests the market has become a little more favourable for buyers, which can put pressure on future resale values if supply stays healthy. For a seller, that means you may need to price competitively to stand out, especially if your X5 has fewer desirable options or higher mileage. Well-equipped examples should still attract attention, but the market is not rewarding overpricing.

Should I buy a 2026 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.05% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines style, quality, comfort, tech, and performance in a broad four-trim lineup.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $84,513 CAD, the 2025 costs less than the current year's $111,100 CAD average.
• It offers multiple powertrain options and strong handling.

Consider the 2027 if:

• It gets a thorough redesign with very different styling and new tech features.

The bottom line: If you want the most current used-market version of this SUV, the 2026 is the better all-round target. If price matters most, the 2025 is the smarter value play. If you would rather wait for a major redesign, the 2027 points to a very different X5 direction.
