Is the 2026 BMW X5 a good car?

Yes — the 2026 BMW X5 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

It stands out as a midsize, two-row luxury SUV with roomy seating, outstanding visibility, and generous cargo space. BMW also gives it a distinctly driver-focused character, with handling that is more precise than some key rivals and a cabin that feels premium and carefully finished.

The trade-offs are familiar luxury-SUV ones: ride quality can be firm, the base equipment list is not especially generous, and the price climbs quickly with options. Even so, it suits you well if you want comfort, space, and engaging road manners in one package.

Is the 2026 BMW X5 reliable?

BMW positions the X5 as a premium SUV with strong everyday usability, and the expert review also points to three years of scheduled maintenance and trial subscriptions to various services. The performance notes show a well-engineered SUV that delivers strong acceleration and confident power delivery, while the ownership notes also flag expensive maintenance and repairs as part of the picture.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term risk is that upkeep can be costly, so a well-documented service history matters.

Which 2026 BMW X5 trim should I buy?

The 2026 BMW X5 is offered in 4 trim levels: xDrive40i, xDrive50e, M60i, and X5 M Competition.

Here's the short version:

• xDrive40i: This is the best-value starting point if you want the X5 experience without jumping deep into the price ladder. It gives you the core luxury, space, and standard safety equipment, and it can be optioned heavily if you want more features.
• xDrive50e: This is the smart pick if you want the most efficiency-focused version. The plug-in hybrid setup adds 64 km of electric range, which can meaningfully reduce fuel use if you can charge regularly.
• M60i: Choose this if you want the strongest performance and are willing to accept higher fuel use and a firmer ride. It suits you best if driving character matters more than value.
• X5 M Competition: This is the most extreme choice in the lineup, aimed at buyers who want the highest-performance version and are comfortable paying for it.

The safety package is standard, but the more advanced driver assistance systems remain optional.

• Deal availability: 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 74 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.14% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $106,319 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2026 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $110,709 CAD sits slightly below last year's $120,513 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the X5 is currently more buyer-friendly than it was a year ago, which can help future sellers gauge where the market has been heading. If prices continue to normalise, well-kept examples should remain competitive, but you may not see the same peak pricing that was available last year. Strong equipment, desirable trims, and a clean history should matter more when it comes time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

The X5 comes standard with high beam assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a speed limit assistant, a driver monitoring system, a collision preparation system, post-collision braking, and parking sensors in the front, to the side, and at the rear. BMW’s more advanced driver assistance systems are not standard and are instead bundled into the optional Driving Assistant Professional Package.

Should I buy a 2026 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.14% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It offers four versions, including a plug-in hybrid with 64 kilometres of electric-only range.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $85,022 CAD, the 2025 costs less than the current year's $110,709 CAD average.
• It remains a core part of BMW’s lineup with multiple powertrain options and strong handling.

The bottom line: If you want the latest pricing context and a broader set of current listings, the 2026 is the better starting point. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2025 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the X5’s core strengths.
