CarGurus Analysis: 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI
Summary
With 89 currently listed for sale and an average price of $29,680 CAD, 37.1% of 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI 4.5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI stands out because it blends everyday sedan practicality with a distinctly sporty character. Volkswagen positions the GLI as a more performance-focused alternative to the standard Jetta, with more aggressive exterior styling, unique 18-inch alloy wheels, a blacked-out honeycomb grille with red accents, sports suspension, a limited-slip differential, and bigger brakes. It also keeps the formula appealing to enthusiasts who want a compact sport sedan that is still usable as a daily driver.
For 2024, the Jetta GLI also gained the 40th Anniversary Edition, which adds minor trim changes and extra badges inside and out. At the same time, VW’s IQ.Drive package became standard for all automatic models, bringing driver-assistance features such as Travel Assist, which can help steer, accelerate, and brake the car at highway speeds. Under the hood is VW’s 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, rated at 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, paired with either a six-speed manual or an optional seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The cabin is not as upscale as the mechanical package might suggest, though, with hard plastics used throughout and an 8-inch touchscreen as the only infotainment offering in Canada.
That mix of performance, equipment, and value is what makes the 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI distinctive. It offers a strong balance of speed and practicality, and it comes well equipped with safety and driver-assistance technology. The trade-off is that its interior materials are more basic than its sporty hardware would imply, but for buyers who want a German sport sedan without moving into premium-car territory, that compromise is part of the appeal.

These cars are so much fun and great value. Great engine that can be modified easily or just leave it and enjoy the 228hp and loads of torque

Is the 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI a good car?
Yes — the 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI earns a 4.5/5 user rating, which lines up with its appeal as a sporty compact sedan that still works well as a daily driver. Volkswagen’s formula here combines everyday practicality with more aggressive styling, a sport suspension, a limited-slip differential, and bigger brakes, so you get a car that feels more engaging than a standard Jetta without giving up sedan usefulness. It also comes well equipped with safety and driver-assistance technology, which broadens its appeal if you want performance and convenience in one package. 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.
Is the 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI is presented as a well-rounded sport sedan with a strong balance of speed, practicality, and value, but it also asks you to accept a cabin that is less upscale than its mechanical hardware suggests. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is more about living with a basic interior than expecting the car to feel premium over time.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 88 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.49% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $29,664 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI's resale value?
The current average of $29,664 CAD sits slightly below last year's $32,064 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has softened, which can make the car easier to buy now but may also temper short-term resale gains for a future seller. If you plan to own it for a few years, the current pricing gives you a lower entry point than buyers had a year ago. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2024 if:
- 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.49% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a sporty compact sedan that still works as a practical daily driver, the 2024 Jetta GLI is the year to focus on because it combines strong equipment, useful performance hardware, and a softer used-market price than a year ago. If your priority is stretching your budget as far as possible, you can also compare nearby model years, but the 2024 offers a compelling balance of value and appeal.
