Is the 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar a good car?

The 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar earns a 6.3/10 expert rating, and its appeal is rooted in style, comfort, and a more design-focused take on the midsize luxury SUV formula.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

It stands out as a stylish five-seat luxury SUV that sits between the smaller Evoque and the more capable Sport, and this model year brings design and comfort enhancements plus improvements to the standard infotainment system. The trade-offs are clear: the technology can still be frustrating, there are minor quality oversights, and the steering assist is unimpressive.

If you want a luxury SUV that leans into distinctive design and a comfortable character more than outright polish, it fits that brief well. With 29.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar reliable?

The 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar is presented as a premium SUV with a strong comfort and design focus, but it also brings technology that can be frustrating and some minor quality oversights.

Its standard infotainment system gets meaningful updates this year, including over-the-air software update capability and an improved interface, but the system still asks a lot of you while driving. The performance side is more reassuring: the Velar is described as quiet and soothing on the highway, with plenty of power for passing and a powertrain that suits the vehicle better when upgraded.

The cost-effectiveness commentary also points to a premium ownership experience rather than a bargain proposition, so long-term used-buyer risk is more about living with complex technology and premium running costs than about basic capability.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Canadian Dynamic SE comes with the more powerful turbocharged six-cylinder in the test vehicle’s description, while the standard setup is positioned as less powerful and the cabin quality can show some substandard details. You should pay close attention to which equipment upgrades are included, especially if you want the more upscale feel that suits this SUV best.
• Powertrain: The Velar is described with a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder P250, a P340 gas/mild-hybrid powertrain, and a P400 turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder mild-hybrid setup. The six-cylinder is the stronger choice, and the text notes combined fuel consumption of 11.1 L/100 km for the P400, 10.7 L/100 km for the P340, and 10.0 L/100 km for the P250.
• Safety package: Every 2024 Velar comes with a comprehensive collection of advanced driving assistance systems, including Adaptive Cruise Control with Steer Assist. The adaptive cruise control works well, but Steer Assist is not rewarding to use and can add stress instead of reducing it.
• Infotainment: The standard system uses an 11.4-inch touchscreen with over-the-air software update capability, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The downside is that key climate and audio functions now live on the screen, which can make the system harder to use on the move.
• Fuel efficiency: The text gives combined figures of 11.1 L/100 km, 10.7 L/100 km, and 10.0 L/100 km depending on powertrain choice, and the evaluation drive averaged 12.1 L/100 km.

Which 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar trim should I buy?

The 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar is offered in 1 trim level: Dynamic SE.

Here's the short version:

The Dynamic SE is the trim to focus on if you want the Velar’s style-first personality and the strongest overall balance of equipment and character described here. It brings the design updates, the improved infotainment setup, and the upscale feel that define the model, while the available upgrades can push it into a much more expensive territory if you start adding options.

The safety package is standard across the range, so you do not need to move up for the core driver-assistance suite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some patience and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 58 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 23.13% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $51,946 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar's resale value?

The current average of $51,946 CAD sits slightly below last year's $67,580 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Velar has become more approachable for used buyers than it was a year ago. For a future seller, that means you may face more pressure to price competitively if the market stays soft. It also means well-equipped examples can still stand out if they are presented cleanly and priced in line with current demand.

Is the 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar safe?

The 2024 Velar earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Every 2024 Velar comes with a comprehensive collection of advanced driving assistance systems, including Adaptive Cruise Control with Steer Assist. The adaptive cruise control works well and includes a speed-limited function, while the LIM indicator on the steering wheel shows when the system is actively regulating speed.

The main caveat is Steer Assist, which struggles to track accurately through bends, can add unwanted steering inputs, and is generally more stressful than helpful. If you buy one, you may prefer to leave that system off and rely on the rest of the ADAS suite.

Should I buy a 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 23.13% compared with last year.
• This year brings design and comfort enhancements plus improvements to the standard infotainment system.

The bottom line: If you want the most current version of the Velar’s styling and tech updates, the 2024 is the one to target. If you are mainly focused on stretching your budget, a lower-priced nearby year may be worth a look, but the 2024’s softer pricing makes it the more compelling starting point right now.
