Is the 2024 Acura MDX a good car?

The 2024 Acura MDX is a strong fit if you want a polished three-row luxury SUV that balances comfort, performance, and family practicality. It earns a user rating of 3.5/5, and our experts rate it 7.8/10 overall.

The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Safety.

Its appeal comes through clearly in the way it combines strong engines, sharp handling, and lots of standard features, while still being comfortable and refined for everyday driving or longer trips. The trade-offs are just as clear: the infotainment system is frustrating, the ride can be firm for some, and the third row is small.

For shoppers who want a well-rounded luxury SUV rather than one that chases a single standout trait, the MDX makes a compelling case. 36.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you a decent chance of finding value in the market.

Is the 2024 Acura MDX reliable?

The 2024 Acura MDX is presented as a dependable, well-rounded luxury SUV with strong safety credentials and a long-running platform. Our experts rate it 9/10 for Safety, and the model is described as comfortable, refined, and cost-effective.

Its powertrain is framed as a strength, with strong engines and confident performance that suit both commuting and road trips. The cost-effectiveness notes also point to a four-year, 80,000-kilometre limited warranty, which adds some ownership reassurance.

If you plan to keep one used for the long term, the main risk is less about mechanical weakness and more about living with the frustrating infotainment system and the usual wear that comes with a premium three-row SUV.

• Powertrain: The standard model uses a 3.5-litre V6 with 290 horsepower, while the Type S Ultra uses a twin-scroll turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 with 355 horsepower. The standard setup is tuned for smooth, refined driving, while the Type S Ultra brings stronger acceleration and more performance hardware.

Which 2024 Acura MDX trim should I buy?

The 2024 Acura MDX is offered in 4 trim levels: Tech, A-Spec, Platinum Elite, Type S Ultra.

Here's the short version:

• Tech: This is the best-value starting point if you want the MDX’s core strengths without paying for extras you may not need. You still get a strong standard equipment list, including leather upholstery, a panoramic moonroof, heated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, navigation, and the standard audio system.
• A-Spec: Choose this if you want a sportier look and a few meaningful comfort upgrades, including ventilated front seats and the upgraded 16-speaker audio system. It suits you best if style matters and you want a more expressive cabin.
• Platinum Elite: This is the trim to target if you want the most balanced luxury experience before stepping into the performance-focused model. The surround-view camera system and head-up display make it the most appealing all-rounder for many shoppers.
• Type S Ultra: Pick this if you want the most powerful and most lavish MDX, with the turbocharged V6, adaptive air suspension, Brembo brakes, massaging front seats, and the 25-speaker sound system. It is the clear choice if performance and top-end features matter most.

The Platinum Elite and Type S Ultra are the trims that add the surround-view camera system and head-up display.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Acura MDX?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to make comparison shopping worthwhile.

• Deal availability: 36.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 214 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.34% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $51,872 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Acura MDX's resale value?

The current average of $52,183 CAD sits slightly below last year's $60,217 CAD.

That drop suggests the MDX has become more attractive to used buyers, but it also means sellers may need to price more competitively to stand out. If you own one, the current market is softer than it was a year ago, so strong condition and desirable trim equipment matter more than ever. For future resale, the trims with the most sought-after features should hold up better than a plain-vanilla example.

Is the 2024 Acura MDX safe?

The 2024 Acura MDX earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Good rating in all phases of IIHS evaluation. It’s also a 2022 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ and it earns a best score of Superior for its crash-prevention technology.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Acura equips the MDX with a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance features, including automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-departure warning, lane keeping assist, driver attention monitoring, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. A surround-view camera system and a head-up display are included starting from the Platinum Elite grade.

The main safety caveat is not the hardware itself, but the infotainment setup, which can draw your eyes away from the road more than a touchscreen would.

Should I buy a 2024 Acura MDX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 36.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.34% compared with last year.
• The new Type S Ultra adds a higher-performance option to the lineup.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $47,382 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $52,183 CAD average.
• It offers stylish design and engaging driving character.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $59,033 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $52,183 CAD average.
• It brings simpler controls and a more approachable user experience.

The bottom line: The 2024 is the right pick if you want the newer Type S Ultra and a strong mix of performance, safety, and standard equipment. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2023 is the better value play, while the 2025 is worth considering if you want the updated interface and can stretch your budget.
