How much does the 2023 BMW X1 cost?

Prices have softened 13.16% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 252 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 BMW X1 a good car?

Yes — with a 5/5 user rating and an expert rating of 7.83/10, the 2023 BMW X1 looks like a strong fit if you want a small luxury crossover that feels more engaging than many rivals. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Form and function.

The X1 is described as all-new and third-generation, and its appeal comes from combining a zippy, fun driving character with added capability and plenty of cargo space. That makes it especially appealing if you want everyday usefulness without giving up a more entertaining drive. The trade-offs are that some advanced safety features are not standard, and the features many shoppers are likely to want can push the price up significantly.

Cons: Some advanced safety features are not standard, and the features you may want can raise the price quickly.

With 32.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is at least some room to shop carefully rather than rushing.

Is the 2023 BMW X1 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The X1 is presented as an all-new, third-generation model, and BMW’s updates focus on stronger performance, added capability, and a more refined cabin. The 2.0-litre twin-turbo four-cylinder gets revised hardware for 2023, and the model also brings standard all-wheel drive, which supports its practical side. The fuel-economy figures are reasonable for the class, and the package is positioned as a premium small crossover rather than a stripped-down entry model.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the desirable equipment can be expensive to add, so you’ll want to make sure the example you choose has the features you actually want.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 BMW X1?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin feels distinctly premium, with the BMW Curved Display, standard LED headlights and taillights, and a clean interior layout. The xLine design adds silver accents and black fender arches, while the M Sport Package brings more body-coloured elements, Shadowline exterior features, sport seats, a stitched SensaTec dashboard, and an M leather steering wheel.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-litre twin-turbo four-cylinder makes 241 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, and it is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. BMW also says the suspension and damping were upgraded for better comfort and stability.
• Safety package: Active blind-spot monitoring is standard, and it includes exit warning. Standard front-collision warning includes pedestrian and cyclist detection with brake intervention. Driving Assistant Professional adds speed limit assist, extended traffic-jam assistant, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control with stop & go.
• Infotainment: The BMW Curved Display combines a 10.7-inch infotainment screen and a 10.25-inch driver information display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and BMW’s Live Cockpit Plus is standard.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates it at 9.6 L/100 km in the city, 7.0 L/100 km on the highway, and 8.4 L/100 km combined.

Which 2023 BMW X1 trim should I buy?

The 2023 BMW X1 is offered in 1 trim level: xDrive28i.

Here's the short version:

The xDrive28i is the trim to focus on because it is the only one offered for this model year, and it already gives you the core X1 formula: standard all-wheel drive, the new Curved Display, strong performance, and a premium-feeling cabin. If you want the best-value path, this is it, since there is no lower trim to step down to.

BMW’s safety package note is worth keeping in mind: active blind-spot monitoring is standard, while Driving Assistant Professional and the 360-degree surround-view camera system are available.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 BMW X1?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right example.

• Deal availability: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 252 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.16% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $34,731 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 BMW X1's resale value?

The current average of $34,731 CAD sits slightly below last year's $39,992 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can be helpful if you are buying now but less favourable if you plan to sell soon. A softer market can mean your future resale value may not rise quickly unless demand strengthens. On the other hand, a well-equipped X1 with the right features should still appeal to shoppers looking for a premium small crossover.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 BMW X1 safe?

The 2023 BMW X1 earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Active blind-spot monitoring is standard, and it includes exit warning to help alert occupants to approaching hazards when opening the door. Standard front-collision warning also includes pedestrian and cyclist detection with brake intervention. BMW’s Driving Assistant Professional is newly available, and it adds speed limit assist, extended traffic-jam assistant, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control with stop & go.

A 360-degree surround-view camera system is available as part of the Premium Enhanced Package, and Active Park Distance Control, Back-Up Assistant, and Parking Assistant Plus are also available. One thing to watch is that some advanced safety features are not standard, so you’ll want to confirm the equipment on any used example you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2023 BMW X1 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.16% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The all-new, third-generation X1 brings added capability and plenty of cargo space while keeping the zippy, fun driving character.

The bottom line: If you want the newest X1 with the strongest mix of performance, utility, and premium feel, the 2023 is the one to target. If you are more price-sensitive, you may want to shop carefully for a well-priced example, since the market has softened and there are enough listings to compare before you commit.
