Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Jeep Wrangler earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 5.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its iconic design, fun driving experience, and customisable features. Many also appreciate the easy-to-use soft top and the Wrangler’s strong off-road capability.

The trade-offs are clear: the ride can be rough, fuel use is a concern, and some design choices lean more rugged than refined. That fits the Wrangler’s role as a distinctive, highly specialised SUV rather than an all-purpose family vehicle.

With 32.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a vehicle people tend to count on for its iconic character, customisable setup, and dependable off-road personality. The Wrangler’s rugged construction and purpose-built nature also support the sense that it is made for long-term use rather than short-term novelty.

Its durability-minded design comes with the usual Wrangler compromises, so used buyers should pay close attention to how hard the vehicle has been used and whether maintenance has been kept up.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Jeep Wrangler?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The core trims are Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon. Base versions are relatively basic, while higher trims and special editions add more equipment and convenience features.
• Powertrain: You can shop this model with a turbocharged four-cylinder, a gasoline V6, a turbodiesel V6, a gas V8, or the 4xe plug-in hybrid powertrain. The V6 and turbo-four can come with a six-speed manual, while an eight-speed automatic is available.
• Safety package: The Safety Group adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. The Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights.
• Infotainment: The standard setup includes a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The larger 8.4-inch system adds satellite radio, connected services, a WiFi hotspot, navigation, and an Alpine premium audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The eTorque V6 is rated at 11.2 L/100 km in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 13.4 L/100 km on the evaluation route and 14.0 L/100 km over a week.

Which 2022 Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?

The 2022 Jeep Wrangler is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Wrangler experience at the lowest starting point and plan to keep things simple.
• Sport S: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds more everyday usability while staying closer to the core Wrangler formula.
• Sahara: Choose this if you want a more comfort-oriented setup and are willing to pay for extra convenience.
• Rubicon: This is the trim to choose if off-road capability is your priority and you want the most trail-focused version.

The Safety Group is a worthwhile upgrade, and the Advanced Safety Group is a nice-to-have rather than a must-have.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Jeep Wrangler?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 813 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.83% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $35,437 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler's resale value?

The current average of $35,437 CAD sits slightly below last year's $39,743 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favourable point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays under pressure. For a seller, the current trend suggests you should expect more competition from similarly priced listings.

Even so, the Wrangler’s strong enthusiast appeal helps support demand. Buyers who want its open-air character and off-road image tend to stay interested, which can help it hold attention better than many mainstream SUVs.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler safe?

The Wrangler earns a three-star rating for rollover resistance from NHTSA, and it receives Marginal ratings in IIHS small overlap and side-impact testing.

It earns a 2/10 safety score from our experts.

The Safety Group adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. The Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights.

Safety is a clear weak point here, and the optional nature of the driver-assistance features means you should look carefully at the equipment list on any used example.

Should I buy a 2022 Jeep Wrangler or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.83% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the Wrangler’s distinctive open-air character and strong off-road focus.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $38,512 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $35,437 CAD average.
• It adds a stronger emphasis on trail capability and careful trim selection.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2022 is the smarter buy because pricing has eased and inventory is healthy. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2023 is worth a look, especially if you want to compare equipment carefully before choosing a trim.
