Owners consistently praise the comfortable ride, stylish design, and high-quality features, and they also highlight the added safety features and quiet performance. What should I look for when buying a used 2022 BMW X3?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The xDrive30i is the value-focused choice, while the M40i adds more performance-oriented equipment and a stronger standard feature set. The xDrive30i can be optioned with packages that bring in more luxury and convenience features, so base examples may feel less complete than you expect.
• Powertrain: The xDrive30i uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, while the M40i adds a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder with a mild-hybrid system and 382 hp. The xDrive30i is quick enough for daily use, while the M40i is the more engaging choice if you want stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, active blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear collision avoidance, park distance control with auto braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian/cyclist detection, and active pre-collision protection systems. Parking assistance plus, active park distance control, and a 360-degree surround camera view are available, and some advanced driver-assistance features are optional.
• Infotainment: Standard BMW Live Cockpit Plus includes a 5.1-inch colour display instrument panel and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, plus Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, navigation, Bluetooth, satellite radio, two USB ports, over-the-air updates, and connected services. An optional Live Cockpit Professional expands both screens to 12.3 inches.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel-efficiency figures are not stated for this model year in the provided data.

Which 2022 BMW X3 trim should I buy?

The 2022 BMW X3 is offered in 3 trim levels: xDrive30i, M40i, and M.

Here's the short version:

• xDrive30i: This is the trim to focus on if you want the best value. It gives you the core X3 experience with the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, standard AWD, and the full suite of standard safety and infotainment features. If you want a premium compact SUV without stretching into higher pricing, this is the one to start with.
• M40i: Choose this if you want the stronger engine and a more engaging drive. It adds the 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder, mild-hybrid system, standard panoramic moonroof, and more performance-focused hardware. It is the better pick if you care more about acceleration and driving feel than keeping costs down.
• M: This is the most performance-focused trim in the lineup, but the provided data does not give enough detail to compare it fully against the other trims.

The safety package includes adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, a rearview camera, and a broad set of driver-assistance features across the range.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 BMW X3?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile examples.

• Deal availability: 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 266 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.32% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $34,153 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 BMW X3's resale value?

The current average of $34,153 CAD sits slightly below last year's $40,330 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the X3 more attractive to used buyers today but less favourable for sellers trying to maximise return. If you own one and plan to sell later, the current trend means you may want to time your listing carefully and present the vehicle well to stand out. Strong condition, desirable equipment, and a clean history will matter more when the market is already softer.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.92/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 BMW X3 safe?

The 2022 BMW X3 has been awarded a five-star crash safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and when last tested by the IIHS, the 2018 X3 was named a Top Safety Pick+.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, active blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear collision avoidance, park distance control with auto braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian/cyclist detection, and active pre-collision protection systems such as seatbelt tensioners, automatic window closures, post-crash braking, and driver attention alerts. Parking assistance plus, active park distance control, and a 360-degree surround camera view are available, and optional features include traffic jam assistance, back-up assistant, front cross-traffic alert, a 3D assisted view display, active lane-keep assist with lane centring, and side collision avoidance.

Should I buy a 2022 BMW X3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.32% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.92/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 model gets a substantial mid-cycle refresh with design tweaks, new engines, more technology, and an expanded suite of safety features.

The bottom line: The 2022 BMW X3 is the better pick if you want the refreshed version with stronger tech and safety content, especially now that prices have eased. If you are more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2022 gives you a compelling mix of updated equipment, strong owner satisfaction, and a more favourable market position.
