How much does the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas cost?

Is the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.5/10 expert rating. It is a three-row crossover SUV aimed at buyers who want a practical family hauler, and its appeal is tied more to space and straightforward utility than to standout flair. The model scores 7/10 across Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

With 33.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively in this market.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Atlas is presented as a practical, functional three-row SUV, and the expert assessment points to a vehicle that covers the basics well without trying to be something it is not. Its standard all-wheel drive and conventional mechanical layout support that straightforward mission.

Volkswagen’s four-year/80,000 kilometre bumper-to-bumper warranty is typical for this segment, which helps with early ownership confidence.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the Atlas does not stand out for refinement, so condition and maintenance history matter more than badge appeal.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Volkswagen Atlas?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Trendline gets 18-inch alloy wheels, cloth seats, a 6.5-inch touchscreen, and the standard seven-seat layout, while Comfortline adds simulated leather and the available VR6. Highline and Execline bring 20-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, real leather upholstery, and available second-row captain’s chairs. Execline also adds the 12-speaker Fender audio system and can be paired with the R-Line package.
• Powertrain: You get a standard 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four with 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, or an available 3.6-litre VR6 with 276 hp and 266 lb-ft. Both use an eight-speed automatic and standard 4Motion all-wheel drive, and the four-cylinder is the more efficient choice.
• Safety package: Every trim gets standard automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring. Adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and traffic-jam assist are available on higher trims, while Execline later adds Travel Assist and Emergency Assist. Base trims miss some of those advanced aids.
• Infotainment: The base trim uses a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while other models get an 8-inch screen with satellite radio. Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto are standard, and Volkswagen’s Digital Cockpit is available on higher trims.
• Fuel efficiency: Four-cylinder models are rated at 10.9 litres per 100 kilometres combined, while VR6 models are rated at 12.9 litres per 100 kilometres combined.

Which 2021 Volkswagen Atlas trim should I buy?

The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas is offered in 4 trim levels: Trendline, Comfortline, Highline, and Execline.

Here's the short version:

• Trendline: This is the entry point, but it still gives you standard AWD, seven seats, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and smartphone connectivity. It makes sense if you want the Atlas’s core space and utility at the lowest price.
• Comfortline: This trim adds simulated leather and opens the door to the available VR6, making it the best-value choice if you want a nicer cabin and stronger engine options without jumping too far up the range.
• Highline: You get real leather, a panoramic sunroof, 20-inch wheels, and access to more advanced driver aids. This is the right pick if you want a more upscale family SUV.
• Execline: This is the most fully equipped version, with the VR6 standard, 21-inch wheels with the R-Line package, the Fender audio system, and later-model-year advanced driver aids. Choose it if you want the most features and do not mind paying for them.

Higher trims also bring better headlights, while the base trim’s lighting is less impressive.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Volkswagen Atlas?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on well-priced examples.

• Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 190 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.22% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,799 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas's resale value?

The current average of $27,799 CAD sits slightly below last year's $33,180 CAD.

That drop suggests the Atlas has become more affordable for used buyers, which can make it harder for a future seller to command a premium unless the vehicle is especially well kept. The current pricing also means depreciation has already done some of the work for you if you are buying now.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas safe?

The Atlas received the top “good” rating in all Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests, but with a “marginal” rating for child-seat anchors, and mixed headlight ratings. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) hasn’t published ratings for the 2021 Atlas, but the similar 2020 model received a five-star overall rating, with five stars in frontal and side crash tests, and four stars in rollover crash tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Every trim level gets standard automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring. Adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist are available on higher trims, and traffic-jam assist is also available to help in stop-and-go traffic. Execline later adds Travel Assist and Emergency Assist.

The main caveat is the marginal child-seat anchor result, along with the fact that the better headlights are reserved for pricier trims.

Should I buy a 2021 Volkswagen Atlas or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.22% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds a styling refresh and a reshuffled option list.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $31,734 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $27,799 CAD average.
• It remains essentially unchanged after the 2021 refresh.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the better value if you want the refreshed Atlas at a lower used price. If you are shopping strictly on budget, the 2021 makes the most sense; if you are comparing across years, the 2022 is mainly for buyers who are comfortable paying more for a newer model year without expecting major changes.
