Is the 2021 Nissan Sentra a good car?

Owners consistently praise the stylish interior, safety features and fuel efficiency, which lines up well with the Sentra’s role as a polished compact sedan for commuting and everyday use. The overview also points to a smart, well-rounded package rather than a compromise, especially if you want a compact car that feels more upscale than basic transportation. The performance content adds that the car delivers positive feedback on feel and road manners, with a nicely sorted CVT that supports everyday commuting. What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Nissan Sentra?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S is the simplest version, with 16-inch steel wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen and front disc/rear drum brakes, while SV and SR add an 8-inch touchscreen, nicer interior materials and 16-inch alloys or 18-inch alloy wheels. If you want the best value, the SV is the trim that most clearly adds everyday comfort and tech without jumping to the top of the range.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine with 149 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque, paired with front-wheel drive and either a CVT or, on S and SR, a six-speed manual transmission. The CVT is tuned for adequate commuting performance and efficiency rather than speed.
• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard and includes intelligent forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, rear automatic braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, a backup camera, rear sonar, high-beam assist and intelligent driver alertness. Base S models get standard cruise control, while SV and SR add adaptive cruise control; SR Premium adds a 360-degree camera system.
• Infotainment: The S uses a 7-inch touchscreen, while SV and SR get an 8-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the range, along with Bluetooth audio and hands-free text messaging. Navigation is not available.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel consumption is 8.0 L/100 km city and 6.0 L/100 km highway for S and SV models, and 8.2 L/100 km city and 6.2 L/100 km highway for SR models. Manual-transmission versions use more fuel than the CVT models.

Which 2021 Nissan Sentra trim should I buy?

The 2021 Nissan Sentra is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, SR and SR Premium.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Sentra experience at the lowest price. You still get standard smartphone integration, a 7-inch touchscreen and the full Safety Shield 360 suite, so it covers the essentials well if you want to keep spending down.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 8-inch touchscreen, nicer interior materials, rear disc brakes and adaptive cruise control. If you want the most balanced mix of comfort, tech and everyday usability, this is the one to target.
• SR: Choose this if you want the sportier look and the larger 18-inch alloy wheels, along with the same 8-inch touchscreen and added equipment. It suits you if style matters more than value.
• SR Premium: This is the top trim and adds the 360-degree camera system, plus the premium Bose audio system with eight speakers. It makes sense if you want the most features and are willing to pay for them.

Safety Shield 360 is standard across the range, while adaptive cruise control starts on SV and SR, and the 360-degree camera is reserved for SR Premium.

• Deal availability: 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 247 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.69% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $17,097 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Nissan Sentra's resale value?

The current average of $17,097 CAD sits slightly below last year's $19,581 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Sentra has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if prices continue to normalise. If you buy at the current average or below, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s higher level. Strong value positioning can help keep demand steady, especially for shoppers focused on affordability and efficiency.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Base S models get standard cruise control, while SV and SR add adaptive cruise control, and SR Premium includes a 360-degree camera system.

Should I buy a 2021 Nissan Sentra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.69% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines a refreshed design with strong safety, technology and fuel efficiency.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $18,485 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $17,097 CAD average.
• It is two years removed from the redesign and feels current without relying on flash.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2021 is the stronger buy because it pairs a lower average price with solid owner satisfaction and a well-rounded feature set. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model-year alternative, the 2022 is the cleaner secondary path.

How does the 2021 Nissan Sentra compare to the 2021 Honda Civic?

Our experts score the 2021 Nissan Sentra 7.2/10 and the 2021 Honda Civic 7.2/10. The Sentra is the cheaper choice and has a stronger share of good and great deals, while the Civic asks more money but brings more horsepower and slightly better city fuel economy. The Sentra also gives you more listings to shop from, which can make it easier to find the right trim and price. If value and inventory matter most, the Sentra has the edge; if you want a bit more performance, the Civic is the stronger pick.
