What should I look for when buying a used 2021 GMC Yukon?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali each bring a different mix of equipment and character. The Denali stands out for its exclusive dashboard design, real wood trim, leather-wrapped panels, unique stitching and piping, and available panoramic sunroof, while the AT4 is aimed at off-road adventures with an improved approach angle, skid plates, and all-terrain tires. The base trims are more about core utility and comfort, so you should check carefully which convenience and luxury features are included before you buy.
• Powertrain: Three engines are available: a standard 355-horsepower 5.3-litre V8, a 420-horsepower 6.2-litre V8 exclusive to Denali, and an optional 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbo-diesel on most trims. The 6.2-litre V8 delivers strong acceleration, while the diesel is the efficiency-minded choice.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning, daytime pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking below 80 km/h, automatic high-beam headlights, Teen Driver, a rear-seat reminder, and automatic crash response and crisis assistance through an active OnStar subscription. Starting with SLT, you also get blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assistance. Rear pedestrian alert is available on SLT and AT4 and standard on Denali, while adaptive cruise control and enhanced automatic emergency braking above 80 km/h require Denali.
• Infotainment: All 2021 Yukons get a 10.2-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, over-the-air updates, and access to an extra-cost 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. Higher trims add wireless device charging, navigation, a 14-speaker Bose Performance Series audio system, and a rear-seat media system with dual 12.6-inch displays.
• Fuel efficiency: The 6.2-litre V8 with 4WD is rated at 16.8 L/100 km in the city, 12.4 on the highway, and 14.8 combined. In testing, it returned 16.3 L/100 km on one loop and 14.5 L/100 km on another. The expert review also notes that fuel efficiency worsens compared with the previous generation in some cases.

Which 2021 GMC Yukon trim should I buy?

The 2021 GMC Yukon is offered in 4 trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali.

Here's the short version:

• SLE: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Yukon’s space, standard safety tech, and core infotainment without paying for luxury extras. It is the trim to start with if you care most about value and basic full-size SUV capability.
• SLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assistance. If you want a more complete safety and convenience package without jumping to Denali pricing, this is the one to focus on.
• AT4: Choose this if you want the Yukon with a more adventurous personality. It adds an improved approach angle, skid plates, and all-terrain tires, making it the trim to consider if light off-road use matters to you.
• Denali: This is the luxury pick, with the exclusive dashboard design, real wood trim, leather-wrapped panels, unique stitching and piping, and the strongest available engine. It also gets rear pedestrian alert as standard, plus adaptive cruise control and enhanced automatic emergency braking.

If safety equipment matters most, the SLT is the key trim to watch because it unlocks several important driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 GMC Yukon?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 72 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.96% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $54,632 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 GMC Yukon's resale value?

The current average of $54,650 CAD sits slightly below last year's $65,031 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Yukon has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you purchase near the current average or below, you may have less downside left than a buyer who paid closer to last year’s higher market level. Strong demand for a roomy, well-equipped full-size SUV can also help support values, especially for well-kept examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 GMC Yukon safe?

The 2021 GMC Yukon earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard features include forward collision warning, daytime pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking below 80 km/h, automatic high-beam headlights, Teen Driver, a rear-seat reminder system, and automatic crash response and crisis assistance through an active OnStar subscription. Starting with SLT trim, you also get blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assistance. Rear pedestrian alert is available on SLT and AT4 and standard on Denali, while Denali also adds adaptive cruise control and enhanced automatic emergency braking above 80 km/h.

The main safety caveat is that some of the more advanced driver-assistance features are reserved for higher trims.

Should I buy a 2021 GMC Yukon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.96% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesign brings more space, better ride quality, and a major technology upgrade.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $63,824 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $54,650 CAD average.
• It adds a standard 12-inch driver information centre and enhanced connectivity.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter buy because it already delivers the redesigned Yukon’s space, comfort, and tech at a lower average price. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model with added connectivity and a larger driver display, the 2022 is the cleaner upgrade.
