What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Cadillac Escalade?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Luxury trim is decently equipped, but it offers little in the way of upgrades. Premium Luxury and Sport add more of the features most buyers will want, while Premium Luxury Platinum and Sport Platinum bring the highest level of luxury.
• Powertrain: You can choose between a standard 6.2-litre V8 and a no-cost 3.0-litre turbo-diesel inline six-cylinder. The V8 is the more powerful choice, while the diesel is the efficiency play.
• Safety package: Every Escalade gets forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, front and rear pedestrian detection, Teen Driver, parking assist sensors, and a surround-view camera system. Premium Luxury and Sport add blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assistance, while the Driver Assist Tech Package adds higher-speed forward emergency braking, rear emergency braking, automatic seatbelt tightening, and adaptive cruise control.
• Infotainment: The cabin centres on a 38-inch curved OLED display, with a 14.2-inch instrumentation screen and a 16.9-inch touch-sensing infotainment screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the system includes AR navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The V8 is rated at 14.8 L/100 km in combined driving, while the turbo-diesel is rated at 10.6 L/100 km combined.

Which 2021 Cadillac Escalade trim should I buy?

The 2021 Cadillac Escalade is offered in 4 trim levels: Luxury, Premium Luxury, Sport, Premium Luxury Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• Luxury: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Escalade experience with standard 4WD in Canada, leatherette upholstery, and the core tech and safety equipment. It makes sense if you want the nameplate and size without chasing every luxury feature.
• Premium Luxury: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds the richer equipment mix most buyers will notice day to day, including more upscale trim content and the broader safety and convenience upgrades available on higher versions.
• Sport: Choose this if you prefer the blacked-out appearance and want the same general equipment direction as Premium Luxury with a more aggressive look.
• Premium Luxury Platinum: This is the pick if you want the most luxurious feel, with the highest-end interior materials and the most premium presentation.

Premium Luxury and Sport are the trims that add the broader safety suite, while the Driver Assist Tech Package is optional on those versions.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Cadillac Escalade?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right one.

• Deal availability: 27.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 51 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.07% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $77,520 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Cadillac Escalade's resale value?

The current average of $78,678 CAD sits slightly below last year's $84,663 CAD.

That softer pricing can work in your favour if you are buying now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if prices continue to ease. The current trend suggests the Escalade is no longer at the peak of its recent pricing cycle, so resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment. Well-kept examples with desirable trims and strong feature content should still attract attention.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Cadillac Escalade safe?

The 2021 Cadillac Escalade earns Good ratings from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Escalade comes with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking below 80 km/h, front and rear pedestrian detection, a Safety Alert Seat, Teen Driver, front and rear parking assist sensors, and a surround-view camera system. Premium Luxury and Sport add blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assistance, while the Driver Assist Tech Package adds higher-speed forward emergency braking, rear emergency braking, automatic seatbelt tightening, and adaptive cruise control.

A key caveat is that the expert drive recorded a couple of false alerts and one false braking event from the advanced driver-assistance systems, so you should test those features carefully on any used example.

Should I buy a 2021 Cadillac Escalade or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 27.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.07% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings the redesigned cabin, 38-inch OLED display, and a much more modern feel than the previous generation.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $81,573 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $78,678 CAD average.
• It adds standard Buckle to Drive and more standard safety equipment on the base trim.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the smarter buy if you want the redesigned Escalade at a lower average price and with strong owner approval. If you are shopping on a tighter budget, the 2021 gives you the core tech and luxury experience without paying the newer-year premium.
