Is the 2020 RAM 1500 a good car?

Yes — the 2020 RAM 1500 earns a 4.75/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its luxurious feel, smooth ride, powerful engine, and spacious interior. That lines up well with the truck’s upscale, polished character and its appeal if you want a pickup that feels more refined than purely utilitarian.

The main trade-offs are that advanced safety features are not standard, and some owners mention Bluetooth connectivity issues and limited storage. The market still shows 31.5% good or great deals, so you have room to shop carefully.

Is the 2020 RAM 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable, with many describing it as a luxury truck thanks to its smooth ride and strong overall refinement. The expert assessment also highlights the EcoDiesel’s improved power delivery and drivability, which supports the sense that Ram put real work into making this powertrain more usable day to day.

The cost-effectiveness notes also suggest you can choose a capable configuration without overpaying for extras you do not want. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the truck’s equipment and powertrain history match your needs, especially if you plan to rely on the diesel or on higher-spec tech.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 RAM 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Tradesman starts with steel wheels, vinyl upholstery and flooring, a bench seat, a 6-speaker stereo, a 5-inch touchscreen, a rear-view camera, and basic convenience features. Big Horn adds fog lights, carpet, tinted windows, and access to more desirable options such as 20-inch wheels, air suspension, dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable pedals, LED lighting, and the 8.4-inch touchscreen. Laramie and above bring the more upscale equipment, while the Limited adds premium leather, power-retractable side steps, and more advanced safety content.
• Powertrain: You get a 3.6-litre V6 with eTorque, an optional 5.7-litre Hemi V8, and the returning 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6. The V6 is the efficiency play, the V8 is the stronger all-rounder, and the diesel is the torque-heavy choice if you want towing-focused capability and better fuel efficiency.
• Safety package: The available driver-assistance content includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and auto emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a self-parking system with a 360-degree camera. Some of the forward-collision and lane-departure mitigation features are limited to Laramie and above, and none of the advanced safety features are standard across the lineup.
• Infotainment: The truck starts with a 5-inch Uconnect touchscreen, while higher trims can get the 8.4-inch screen or the 12-inch tablet-style display. Wireless charging appears on higher-spec builds, and the system is described as bright, beautiful, and easy to use. The text does not mention OTA capability.
• Fuel efficiency: The 3.6-litre V6 with 4WD is rated at 12.2 L/100 km city, 9.7 L/100 km highway, and 11.1 L/100 km combined. The 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6 with 4WD is rated at 11.1 L/100 km city, 8.0 L/100 km highway, and 9.7 L/100 km combined.

Which 2020 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2020 RAM 1500 is offered in 6 trim levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Rebel, Laramie, Longhorn, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the value-focused starting point if you want a capable truck without paying for luxury extras. It gives you the basics you need, plus a rear-view camera, push-button ignition, and Uconnect, and it can be a smart choice if you plan to build up only the equipment you actually want.
• Big Horn: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it opens the door to the most appealing comfort and tech upgrades without jumping straight to luxury pricing. If you want the 8.4-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and available air suspension, this is the trim to target.
• Rebel: Choose this if you want the more aggressive look and off-road-focused hardware. It adds a lifted suspension, off-road tires, skid plates, tow hooks, and a more rugged personality, along with the diesel engine being newly available this year.
• Laramie: This is the trim to consider if you want a more premium cabin. It adds leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, driver memory, parking sensors, and a better stereo, making it a strong fit if comfort matters more than ruggedness.
• Longhorn: Pick this if you want the most upscale feel before the top trim. It adds more exterior flair, upgraded leather, rear-seat heating and ventilation, navigation, and a more luxurious cabin presentation.
• Limited: This is the top-end choice if you want the most complete mix of luxury and safety content. It includes standard air suspension, premium leather, power-retractable side steps, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

For safety equipment, note that the most advanced driver aids are not standard on every trim, so you should verify the exact package on any used example.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 RAM 1500?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, which gives you a reasonable chance to shop patiently and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,702 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.19% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $31,287 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $31,287 CAD sits slightly below last year's $35,630 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer now, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations if the market stays competitive. The year-round range suggests there is still room for values to move within a fairly broad band, especially for better-equipped trims and well-kept examples.

Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when you eventually sell. Trucks that feel refined, comfortable, and well liked tend to stay attractive to used shoppers, especially when they also offer strong capability and a premium image.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 RAM 1500 safe?

The 2020 RAM 1500 earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick Plus rating from IIHS. It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety content says this IIHS result applies only if you get the Crew Cab model with all the active safety equipment and the optional LED lights. That means you should pay close attention to the exact configuration on any used truck you are considering.

The available driver-assistance suite includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and auto emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a self-parking system with a 360-degree camera. Some of those features are limited to Laramie and above, and none are standard across the lineup.

Should I buy a 2020 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.19% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The EcoDiesel returns for every trim, giving you diesel power across the lineup.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $32,794 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $31,287 CAD average.
• It adds the TRX, a high-performance off-road flagship.

The bottom line: If you want the better value and broader diesel availability, the 2020 is the smarter buy. If you are willing to pay more for a more extreme performance option, the 2021 is the one to cross-shop.
