Which 2020 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?

The 2020 Ford F-150 is offered in 7 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Raptor, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the value-focused work-truck choice if you want the lowest entry point and can live with the most basic cabin and tech. It makes sense if you care more about capability than comfort, but the sparse standard equipment means many shoppers will want to move up.

• XLT: This is the best-value trim for most buyers because it adds SYNC 3, an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, cruise control, chrome exterior touches, and a WiFi hotspot. If you want a used F-150 that feels modern without jumping too far in price, this is the trim to target.

• Lariat: This is the sweet spot if you want a more premium daily driver. You get leather-trimmed seats, heated and cooled front seats, blind spot monitoring, dual-zone climate control, and a more upscale cabin without going all the way to luxury-trim pricing.

• King Ranch: Choose this if you want a distinctive Western-themed interior and more comfort features, including the Bang & Olufsen sound system, heated rear seats, and remote tailgate release. It suits you best if style and cabin ambience matter as much as utility.

• Platinum: This trim leans into luxury with massaging seats, ambient lighting, extra power outlets, and more chrome and body-colour detailing. It is a strong pick if you want a high-end truck feel and spend a lot of time behind the wheel.

• Raptor: This is the off-road specialist, with a wider body, lifted suspension, Fox Racing Shox, skid plates, and terrain-focused drive modes. Buy it if you specifically want the most capable trail-oriented version.

• Limited: This is the most comfort-focused trim, with premium leather, a dual-panel moonroof, and 22-inch polished wheels. It is the right choice if you want the most upscale F-150 experience.

For safety-package shoppers, note that Ford Co-Pilot360 features are available or standard on higher trims, while the base XL only gets standard automatic emergency braking and an available reverse sensing system.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford F-150?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

• Deal availability: 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,170 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.23% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $30,687 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Ford F-150's resale value?

The current average of $31,715 CAD sits slightly below last year's $34,188 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper what a future seller can ask. If you own one now, the softer pricing means resale expectations should be realistic unless your truck has especially desirable equipment, low kilometres, or a standout condition history. The good news is that the F-150’s broad appeal and strong reputation should still support steady demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.72/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Ford F-150 safe?

The 2020 Ford F-150 SuperCrew trucks received five-star ratings from NHTSA, while the SuperCab and regular cab managed four-star ratings.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford Co-Pilot360 includes automatic high beams, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. Pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking is standard on the F-150, including the XL, and a reverse sensing system is available on the base XL. One caveat to keep in mind is that advanced safety features are not standard across the lineup, so lower trims are less well equipped.

Should I buy a 2020 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.23% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.72/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It offers broad powertrain choice, strong towing ability, and a modern-but-familiar cabin.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $36,977 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $31,715 CAD average.
• It adds a revamped interior and the new Sync 4 infotainment system.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because it delivers strong capability and satisfaction at a lower average price. If you are willing to pay more for newer tech and a redesigned cabin, the 2021 is the better upgrade path.
