Why it stands out
The 2019 Volkswagen Atlas stands out as a three-row midsize SUV that was designed to prioritise space and practicality without losing its European character. It immediately distinguished itself with very roomy second and third rows, a clean and sophisticated interior layout, and driving dynamics that were praised for being refined. Its bold, boxy styling and upright proportions gave it strong North American appeal, while its overall size made it the largest Volkswagen on sale in North America.
For 2019, the Atlas added autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian assist and a heated windshield as standard equipment. It also added a power liftgate to the Comfortline trim and made a sunroof available as an option on that same trim. Those updates helped strengthen an already family-friendly package that offered Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plenty of storage solutions, and seating for up to seven.
There are a few trade-offs to keep in mind. The Atlas had early reliability complaints, including transmission hesitations and failures on VR6 models, electrical faults, and premature wear of interior components. It also had occasional infotainment software glitches, although cars built from 2021 were described as relatively trouble-free. Even so, the 2019 Volkswagen Atlas remains appealing for buyers who want a spacious, well-equipped SUV with a premium feel and a straightforward, easy-to-use cabin.

The visibility in this car is amazing. The warning light on the side mirrors is an added bonus but seriously if you even glance over your shoulder you can see easily. The turning radius is truly exceptional. Nothing else I test drove could even come close! Even in smaller cars like the Acadia or Outback the turning radius was way outdone by the Atlas. The acceleration and braking are really good too, at least on the 3.6L that I bought.

My wife and I fell in love with(and purchased) the first one that we test drove. We had very specific features that we were after(3rd row seats, 2nd row captains, leather interior, lots of leg room, etc..) and the one that we looked at covered all of the bases and then some!!! We were upgrading from a Dodge Journey and we needed soemthing bigger because our kids have grown up so much over the past 7 years and as soon as we looked inside the Atlas it was like Woa.. this thing is HUGE!!!! We were sold. We also test drove a Chevy Traverse(which we liked as well) and a Ford Explorer and they were also both very nice and had all the features we needed but at the end of the day, we just liked the Atlas better, and the warranty couldnt be touched!!! Hope this helps.

The outside is stylish and I love that its not rounded , yet the only downfall is that it didnt drive as smooth as I suspected but made the mistake of driving a Volvo before. If I hadnt compared it I would have Def been interested .
