Why it stands out
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid stands out because it marked the start of the second-generation RAV4 Hybrid, introduced in 2018 for the 2019 model year as part of the fifth-generation RAV4 lineup. It is slightly larger than its predecessor and wears a tougher, more angular design outside, with a similarly sharp-edged cabin. Toyota also gave it an updated and more powerful hybrid system, with a total output of 219 horsepower, while keeping the familiar formula of a 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder engine, an electric motor for each axle, a CVT, and on-demand all-wheel drive.
Efficiency and technology are major reasons to consider this version. Most models return a combined fuel consumption figure of 6.0 litres per 100 kilometres, and Toyota Safety Sense was included as standard from the start. The model also brought a new multimedia infotainment system with a larger touchscreen and, for the first time, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Buyers also had a broader trim range to choose from, including well-equipped LE Hybrid, XLE Hybrid, XSE Hybrid, and Limited Hybrid versions, with the XSE adding a sportier look and the Limited leaning more towards comfort and convenience.
There are a few caveats. The infotainment systems are not cutting-edge, and the cargo area is smaller than some rivals’. Some 2019 and 2020 vehicles experienced a fuel tank problem that Toyota addressed with affected owners. Even so, the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid remains appealing for shoppers who want a practical, fuel-efficient compact SUV with strong value, good performance, and a reputation for reliability.

I have only had the 2019 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid for a few days. So far I can say I enjoy driving it. The space inside is good for me and my daughter. The seats are comfortable. The ride is smooth. There is good acceleration when getting on the highway. The brakes work well.

I bought this car and I love it. I was in a small Kia Niro 2020 hybrid before and though my gas mileage was better I did not feel as safe as I do in the Toyota Rav4 hybrid. When I accelerate it actually accelerates and I live in a climate with ice and snow in the winter so the all wheel drive is something I feel better about having.

Incredibly Reliable, as with every Toyota; Welcoming and comfortable; no matter how long the trip; Economical on shot and longer excursions; Looks simply terrific; My next RAV4 will, I hope, be a HYBRID...Cantt Lose!!!

| Year-Round High | $31,402 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $31,301 CAD |

There are 144 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of choice in the used market.
Is the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid a good car?
Generally — the 4.38/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the fuel economy, performance, and comfort, while also noting that the tech can feel a bit outdated and the interior may not feel especially premium for the price. That makes it a good fit if you want a practical compact SUV with hybrid efficiency, standard all-wheel drive, and everyday usability rather than the flashiest cabin in the segment. With 38.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop carefully.
Is the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid reliable?
Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise for the vehicle’s long-term usefulness and the confidence it inspires over time. For used buyers, the main risk is less about everyday reliability and more about checking that any known issues were addressed properly before you commit.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 38.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 144 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.70% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $29,205 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid's resale value?
The current average of $29,205 CAD sits slightly below last year's $31,301 CAD.
That price movement suggests the model has softened a bit in the used market, which can help you buy at a more favourable point if you plan to keep it for several years. For a future seller, the current trend means there may be less upside than there was a year ago, so condition, mileage, and service history will matter even more when it comes time to resell. Even so, the combination of hybrid efficiency and broad shopper appeal should help support steady demand.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 38.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.70% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2019 is a strong choice if you want the updated second-generation RAV4 Hybrid formula, especially with its fuel efficiency, standard all-wheel drive, and broad owner approval. If you’re price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby years to see whether a lower-priced example offers similar value, but the 2019 remains the better pick if you want the newer design and updated tech package.
