Is the 2019 BMW X5 a good car?

Yes — the 2019 BMW X5 earns a 4.56/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its strong performance, comfort, sleek design, and luxury features. The X5’s appeal is especially clear if you want an SUV that still delivers car-like handling, room, and upscale practicality. Even so, the technology is not the strongest part of the package, so it suits you best if driving feel and premium comfort matter more than cutting-edge interface polish. 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2019 BMW X5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.56/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with praise for its comfort, performance, and upscale character. The expert drive notes also emphasise that the eight-speed automatic is smooth and that the powertrain delivers consistent power without hesitation, which supports the impression of a well-sorted long-term package. BMW also includes a first scheduled maintenance visit at no charge, which helps reduce early ownership costs.

That said, used buyers should still watch for electrical concerns and make sure any advanced equipment works properly, since those are the kinds of issues that can affect ownership confidence over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 BMW X5?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base xDrive40i comes with AWD, adaptive LED headlights and fog lights, a panoramic sunroof, adaptive suspension, 19-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped and power-adjustable steering wheel, faux-leather upholstery, a power liftgate, ambient lighting, and a digital gauge cluster with a 12.3-inch secondary touchscreen. Heated front seats are optional, so make sure the equipment level matches what you want.
• Powertrain: You get a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder in the xDrive40i or a 4.4-litre V8 in the xDrive50i. The eight-speed automatic is a highlight, with smooth shifts and strong efficiency for the class. The six-cylinder returns 11.7 L/100 km in city driving, 9.1 on the highway, and 10.5 combined.
• Safety package: The available driver-assistance suite includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Most of these features are optional, so verify exactly what is fitted.
• Infotainment: The X5 uses an updated iDrive system with a 12.3-inch secondary touchscreen. Wireless charging, enhanced USB and Bluetooth connectivity, a rear-view camera with 3D view, gesture control, and Parking Assistant Plus are available, but the tech interface is not the strongest part of the vehicle.
• Fuel efficiency: The xDrive40i is rated at 11.7 L/100 km in the city, 9.1 on the highway, and 10.5 combined.

Which 2019 BMW X5 trim should I buy?

The 2019 BMW X5 is offered in 2 trim levels: xDrive40i, xDrive50i.

Here's the short version:

• xDrive40i: This is the best-value choice because it gives you the core X5 experience: strong six-cylinder performance, standard AWD, a well-equipped cabin, and the smooth eight-speed automatic. If you want the most balanced version of the X5 without chasing V8 power, this is the one to target.
• xDrive50i: Choose this if you want the V8 and are willing to pay for it. It adds substantially more power and is the pick for buyers who care most about straight-line performance and top-end luxury content.

The safety package is impressive, but many of its features are optional, so check the build sheet carefully before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 BMW X5?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right one.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 166 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.33% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $35,370 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $35,370 CAD sits slightly below last year's $41,288 CAD.

That price decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the X5 more attractive to used buyers today. For a future seller, it also means you may need to be realistic about pricing if you want to stay competitive. The good news is that strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it is time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.56/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 BMW X5 safe?

The 2019 BMW X5 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and four-star ratings in all frontal crash and rollover tests, with five-star ratings in all side crash tests from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW’s available driver-assistance suite includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Those features are a meaningful part of the safety story, but many are optional rather than standard, so you should confirm the exact equipment on any used example. The brake-by-wire setup also feels nearly natural, though it can occasionally get briefly grabby at the end of braking.

Should I buy a 2019 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.33% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.56/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It stands out as an all-new version of BMW’s midsize crossover, with a redesigned interior, updated iDrive, and Level 2 autonomous technology.

The bottom line: The 2019 X5 is a strong choice if you want the redesigned fourth-generation model and value its mix of performance, comfort, and luxury. If you are price-sensitive, the current market softness makes this a sensible year to shop, especially if you can find a well-equipped xDrive40i at the low end of the range.
