CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Toyota Tundra

Summary
With 59 currently listed for sale and an average price of $34,876 CAD, 18.6% of 2018 Toyota Tundra listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Toyota Tundra 4.7 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Toyota Tundra stands out as a full-size pickup that leans heavily on durability, strong capability, and long-term value. Toyota’s second-generation Tundra offered a V6 and two V8 engine options for the entirety of its 14-year lifespan, and the top-tier 381-hp 5.7-litre V8 gave it a maximum towing capacity of 4,535 kilograms and a payload of more than 900 kilograms. It also came with a wide range of configurations, including three bed lengths, three cab configurations, three wheelbases, and two transmissions, which made it unusually flexible for buyers who needed a truck tailored to specific work or family duties.
For 2018, Toyota Safety Sense-P became standard on all trucks, adding adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning across the lineup. That year also brought the TRD Sport package, while the broader second-generation truck already had useful equipment such as an available back-up camera, optional tow mirrors, and a centre console large enough to stow a laptop. The 2018 Tundra’s appeal is reinforced by its reputation for reliability and strong resale value, and owners often praise its smooth drive, spacious interior, and solid performance. Its drawbacks are just as clear, though: it lacks a diesel option, and its fuel economy and technology can feel dated compared with competitors.

Toyota Tundra is what expected of from a towing capacity of a powered V8 / 5.7L 4 × 4 vehicle. Lots of leg room.

Toyotas are generally bullet proof. This is my fourth and it has basically solidified a brand-loyalty when car shopping. The Tundra is a terrific truck. Almost everything an F150, Sierra or Ram can do, the Tundra does better. It definitely rides better than any truck out there. It tows just like the others, hauls just like the others and looks better than the others. It is a rather thirsty truck however. I get 15-17 city/highway like clockwork. Not great mileage but let me qualify that by saying that those numbers are consistent no matter how Im driving. The Tundra is easily modified should you choose to do so. Ive put a cold air intake and stainless, aftermarket exhaust on mine and it has definitely improved already good performance. Those mods were easily done at home too. I say get a Tundra before the new breed of six cylinder supplants the V8 and hang on to it!

How much does the 2018 Toyota Tundra cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $35,259 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $33,457 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $42,332 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $42,181 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −16.41% |
Prices have softened 16.41% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 60 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2018 Toyota Tundra a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Toyota Tundra earns a 4.7/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its reliability, smooth drive, and solid performance, and many also like the spacious interior and the useful features found in higher trims. If you want a full-size pickup that leans toward durability, strong capability, and long-term value, this model year fits that use case well. With 21.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Toyota Tundra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback highlights reliability, and the overview reinforces that reputation by pointing to the truck’s durability and long-term value. That combination matters if you want a used pickup you can count on for years of ownership rather than a short-term stopgap. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about dependability and more about accepting older-tech compromises and higher operating costs.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Toyota Tundra?
This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting deep bargain-bin pricing across the board.
- Deal availability: 21.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 60 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.41% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $33,457 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Toyota Tundra's resale value?
The current average of $35,259 CAD sits slightly below last year's $42,181 CAD.
That drop suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it can also mean future sellers may need to price more competitively to stand out. If you buy at today's average or below, you may have less downside risk than someone who bought when prices were higher. The Tundra's reputation for durability and owner satisfaction should help support demand, even if the truck's dated technology limits how quickly values can rise.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 21.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.41% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a used full-size pickup with strong owner approval, proven durability, and a market that has eased from last year, the 2018 is the primary year to target. If your priority is stretching your budget as far as possible, you can also compare nearby years and focus on whichever one gives you the best combination of condition, price, and deal quality.
