CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Ford Mustang
overall

Summary
With 78 currently listed for sale and an average price of $24,599 CAD, 34.6% of 2018 Ford Mustang listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Ford Mustang 4.61 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
Why it stands out
With a nip here and a tuck there, plus substantial mechanical and technological improvements, the 2018 Ford Mustang aims to ensure its continued popularity. It is presented as less rudimentary and more sophisticated than ever, blurring the line between mainstream and premium cars as well as sports cars and muscle cars. That broader appeal is part of what makes the 2018 Mustang distinctive: it is still recognisably a pony car, but one that has moved further upmarket in feel and ambition.
For buyers, the attraction is the combination of performance heritage and a more polished character. The available owner feedback reinforces that appeal, with praise for its power, sporty design, fast acceleration, smooth ride, and enjoyable driving experience. At the same time, some owners were disappointed by trunk space and discrepancies in vehicle specifications, so the Mustang’s style and performance come with a few practical compromises.

This is a driver’s car. Base model, performance package, standard shift. It’s got all the right parts and it is exactly the car I would have ordered if I were there to purchase this car when it was new.

First the color Kona Blue is beautiful especially in the sunlight. Ride is smooth and comfortable. I love that you change to sport mode. And your comfort or sport for steering. Love it! Inexpensive muscle car.

Very good value. Car is missing nothing. I would compare it to a corvette.

Engine sounds good. Interior has lots of cigarette burns. Front bumper cover was repainted, could have done a better job on the clear coat. Scratch down the passenger side quarter panel. Would have bought for cash if price was a little bit lower.

Owners consistently praise its power, sporty design, fast acceleration, smooth ride, and enjoyable driving experience. That lines up with the model’s broader appeal as a more polished pony car that still delivers strong performance heritage. For you, that means it suits buyers who want a stylish, fun-to-drive coupe or convertible with a more upmarket feel than a bare-bones muscle car.
The market also shows 31.0% of listings as good or great deals, which points to solid shopping opportunities.
Is the 2018 Ford Mustang reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car that many people find fun, stylish, and enjoyable to live with over time. It is also described as affordable for a muscle car, which can matter if you want a performance car that still feels attainable to own. The expert review also highlights the Mustang’s improved sophistication and strong performance, which supports the impression that it is built to be counted on as a daily driver or weekend car.
Ford also notes that the Mustang’s performance hardware and driving modes are engineered for repeat use, and the review mentions a first scheduled maintenance visit being on the house. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a hard-driven example may have seen more wear than its odometer suggests.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Ford Mustang?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin quality and equipment level change noticeably by trim, with Premium models adding higher-quality materials, exposed contrast stitching, and available aluminium carbon-pattern trim. Base versions are more stripped back, so you should check whether the features you want are included before you buy.
- Powertrain: You can choose between a turbocharged 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine and a V8 GT, with rear-wheel drive as standard. The review also notes a 10-speed automatic, a six-speed manual, launch control on manual cars, and a Drag Strip mode on automatic cars.
- Safety package: The Mustang includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, driver monitoring, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts. The lane-keeping assist can be switched off if you find it intrusive.
- Infotainment: Look for the 12-inch digital instrument cluster, Sync 3 touchscreen infotainment, available navigation, rearview camera, Ford Sync Connect, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The system also includes Bluetooth and performance-focused Track Apps.
- Fuel efficiency: The review says the V8-powered GT consumes 12.5 L/100 km in combined driving, and the test loop returned 12.6 L/100 km.
Which 2018 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?
The 2018 Ford Mustang is offered in 4 trim levels: EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium.
Here's the short version:
- EcoBoost: This is the value pick if you want the Mustang look and feel without paying V8 money. The review says the real value is found in the EcoBoost, and it is the best fit if you care most about keeping purchase price down while still getting strong style and fun.
- EcoBoost Premium: Choose this if you want the turbocharged engine plus a more upscale cabin. It adds the nicer interior materials and is the better choice if you want a more polished daily driver.
- GT: This is the choice for buyers who want the V8 experience and stronger performance. It suits you best if sound, acceleration, and track-capable hardware matter more than budget.
- GT Premium: This is the most complete version for shoppers who want the V8 plus the upgraded interior. It is the best-value trim if you want the full Mustang experience and can stretch for the extra comfort and ambience.
The safety package includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, driver monitoring, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Ford Mustang?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy if you shop carefully.
- Deal availability: 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 197 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.78% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $24,674 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Ford Mustang's resale value?
The current average of $25,005 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,715 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy now, you may benefit from the current dip, but resale gains are likely to depend on condition, mileage, and trim desirability. Well-kept examples with the right equipment should hold attention better than rougher or more basic cars.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Ford Mustang safe?
The 2018 Mustang earns an Acceptable rating from the IIHS for small-overlap frontal-impact protection and Good ratings in other crash-test assessments. It also earns a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, a driver monitoring system, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts. The lane-keeping assist system can detract from driving enjoyment, but you can shut it off.
Should I buy a 2018 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.78% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 update adds more sophistication, stronger tech, and improved performance.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $29,022 CAD, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $25,005 CAD average.
- The Bullitt adds special-edition styling and extra power.
The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, inventory, and updated features, the 2018 is the smarter buy. If you are willing to pay more for a special-edition feel and extra exclusivity, the 2019 is the more distinctive choice.
