CarGurus Analysis: 2018 BMW 3 Series
Summary
With 95 currently listed for sale and an average price of $19,332 CAD, 22.1% of 2018 BMW 3 Series listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 BMW 3 Series 4.53 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2018 BMW 3 Series stands out as a compact luxury sedan that still leans hard into the brand’s traditional strengths: performance, handling, and a businesslike sense of refinement. In this generation, BMW had already narrowed the North American body style to a four-door sedan, and the car’s appeal comes from how well it balances everyday usability with the sharp driving character buyers expect from a 3 Series. It remains a premium-feeling choice, but one that can still be found at a relatively accessible price compared with many luxury rivals.
For 2018, the 3 Series offered a wide spread of powertrains, from the 330i’s 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 255 horsepower and 294 pound-feet of torque to the M340i’s 3.0-litre mild-hybrid inline-six with 382 horsepower and 369 pound-feet. The plug-in hybrid 330e was also part of the lineup, with 288 horsepower, 310 pound-feet, and up to 35 kilometres of electric range. BMW paired these models with standard all-wheel drive in Canada and an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the M3 used a manual or automatic depending on version. The car also benefited from a 2023 update that brought a new infotainment system, a redesigned dashboard, standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and over-the-air software updates, which helps explain why the 3 Series still feels modern in many used examples.
There are trade-offs, though. The cabin is sober and luxurious, but it is a little tight in the back, and trunk space is reduced in the 330e because of the battery pack. Safety equipment is solid, with standard forward collision warning and city collision mitigation, but many other driver-assistance features were optional, so used examples can vary a lot in equipment. Reliability for this generation is generally good, although 2019 models had the most bugs, and buyers should still expect maintenance costs to be higher than those of a basic commuter car.

Somewhat similar to Audi A3 E-tron, but that model is no longer available in US. Wish the 330e could go farther on just electricity. Youll never actually save money with these PHEVs, but Mother Nature will like it

A well-priced example should still appeal to shoppers who want a premium compact sedan with strong driving manners.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

Choose the 2018 if:
