Why it stands out
The 2017 Honda HR-V stands out as a practical subcompact crossover that blends the higher driving position and cargo flexibility of an SUV with the easygoing feel of a smaller car. It was part of the first-generation HR-V, which helped popularise the segment in Canada by combining versatility with a compact footprint. Honda’s Magic Seat system is one of its defining features, giving the rear seats multiple folding configurations for different combinations of passengers and cargo. That flexibility, along with the HR-V’s reputation for reliability, makes it appealing to buyers who want an affordable, everyday utility vehicle that still feels manageable in town.
For 2017, the HR-V used a 1.8-litre four-cylinder powertrain with 141 hp and a CVT automatic transmission designed more for fuel economy than performance. Natural Resources Canada rated it at between 7.6 and 8.5 litres per 100 kilometres combined, depending on model year and equipment. The model’s strengths are its ride comfort, spacious and adaptable interior, and strong value, while its weaknesses include sluggish acceleration and an infotainment system that was not especially impressive in early cars. Owners also noted the smooth driving experience and useful features such as heated seats and a sunroof, though some were disappointed by limited storage space and transmission concerns.

This could be a great value but this model has transmission issues and I was told it wouldn’t be covered because of the salvage title.

I love my Honda and it is a great value. My car is only missing air/heat vents in the back on the vehicle.

I love this car and ended up buying it because of it being such a smooth vehicle to drive with touch screen controls, heated seats, and a sunroof. Over all just a nice, clean, little SUV!

There is no extra storage space. Given the fact that it is the smallest of the SUV lineup for Honda but top of the line in the package, I guess I expected more.
