Why it stands out
The 2017 Chevrolet Traverse stands out as a big, family-focused crossover that prioritises space above almost everything else. It offers a vast interior, a third row that is among the largest in any crossover, and a comfortable suspension that smooths out most road imperfections. It is also easy to drive and easy to use, with intuitive technology that helps make a large SUV feel less intimidating in daily use.
For 2017, the Traverse still followed the original formula that made it appealing in the first place: a 3.6-litre V6, a six-speed automatic transmission, and a strong emphasis on utility. In LTZ form, that engine produced 288 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, while the model could tow up to 2,358 kilograms and carry as much as 3,296 litres of cargo. It also offered eight-passenger seating by default on base trims, with second-row captain’s chairs available on higher trims, which helped make it a practical choice for larger families.
The trade-off is that the 2017 Traverse is not especially plush or exciting, and its reliability record is a weak point. The model has a reputation for electrical and power steering issues, along with engine and transmission trouble, so buyers need to be selective. Even so, its roomy cabin, friendly used pricing, and straightforward character make it an appealing option for shoppers who want maximum space for the money.

Love the style and options and comfort. Don’t like that the sun/moon roof doesn’t have a solid cover to keep the sun out, only a shade.

This is the second Traverse we get. It is very generous in space in the third row and the 7 passenger model is very practical for having the whole family in and out of the car in seconds!

How much does the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $13,686 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $13,409 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $17,259 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $17,256 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −20.69% |
Prices have softened 20.69% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 66 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of choice in the used market.
Is the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse a good car?
Yes — 4.8/5 is a strong user rating for the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse. Owners consistently praise its space, comfort, and style, and many also like the powerful performance and available all-wheel drive. That lines up well with its family-first design, roomy three-row layout, and minivan-like cargo capacity when the seats are folded. With 30.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.
Is the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The feedback points to a vehicle that many owners find dependable in day-to-day use, especially when it comes to comfort, space, and overall ownership experience. At the same time, used buyers should still inspect carefully, because long-term ownership risk can rise if a previous owner skipped maintenance or if the vehicle has been heavily used as a family hauler.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Chevrolet Traverse?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 66 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 20.69% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $13,409 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse's resale value?
The current average of $13,686 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,256 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the Traverse easier to buy now but may also limit upside for a future seller if prices stay soft. If you plan to resell later, the current trend means your return will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance history. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 20.69% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a roomy, family-focused three-row SUV and you value current pricing more than chasing the newest redesign, the 2017 is the sensible path. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby years and focus on the best-maintained example rather than the newest badge.
