CarGurus Analysis: 2017 BMW X3
Summary
With 28 currently listed for sale near Montreal, QC and an average price of $14,300 CAD, 28.6% of 2017 BMW X3s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 BMW X3 4.69 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2017 BMW X3 stands out as a compact luxury SUV that leans more toward car-like driving than off-road ambition. It offers the high seating position and easy access buyers expect from an SUV, but its real appeal is the sporty feel and engaging handling that BMW is known for. For shoppers who want a premium badge without moving up to a larger SUV, the X3’s mix of practicality, agility, and upscale character is a strong part of its identity.
What makes this generation especially appealing is how thoroughly it blends everyday usability with driver-focused dynamics. The X3 is described as one of the most engaging SUVs to drive in its class, with sharp handling, good feedback through the sport steering wheel, and plenty of stability on the highway and through corners. It also brings premium materials inside, BMW’s iDrive touchscreen infotainment system, and a family-friendly cabin with lots of rear legroom and useful cargo space. Owners also tend to praise the luxurious interior, smooth ride, sporty performance, and practical features.
There are a few trade-offs to keep in mind. The X3’s premium positioning means maintenance and repair costs can be higher than those of similar non-luxury rivals, and some buyers may find that certain models lack heated seats or the advanced safety technology they expected in a premium vehicle. Even so, the 2017 BMW X3 remains distinctive because it delivers a rare combination of luxury, practicality, and genuinely enjoyable driving manners.

That said, some buyers noted missing heated seats in certain models and the absence of advanced safety technology they expected in a premium vehicle. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright satisfaction and more about making sure the specific vehicle you choose has been maintained properly.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 BMW X3?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 146 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.98% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $16,496 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 BMW X3's resale value?
The current average of $16,704 CAD sits slightly below last year's $18,152 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the vehicle more attractive to buyers today but may limit upside for a future seller. If you buy near the current average, you may need to be realistic about depreciation if the market stays soft. On the other hand, the lower entry price can help you preserve more value relative to what you pay now. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.69/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 BMW X3 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.98% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.69/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a compact luxury SUV with a premium cabin, practical space, and a sporty driving character, the 2017 BMW X3 is the year to focus on. If your priority is stretching your budget as far as possible, you may want to compare nearby years and shop for the best-priced example rather than locking onto this one year alone.
