CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Audi Q5
Summary
With 13 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,661 CAD, 46.2% of 2016 Audi Q5 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Audi Q5 4.7 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Audi Q5 stands out as a compact luxury SUV that leans more on refinement than flash. It has a roomy, beautifully built interior and a real feeling of solidity and smoothness, which helps explain why it has long appealed to buyers who want a premium SUV that feels substantial on the road. It also came with standard all-wheel drive and a well-equipped cabin, so even early versions were positioned as upscale rather than stripped-back.
For 2016, the Q5 was part of the first generation, and the available information points to a strong mix of comfort and usability. The entry-level model came with 18-inch alloy wheels, power heated front seats and outboard mirrors, leather upholstery, a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10-speaker audio system, and Sirius satellite radio. That combination makes it easy to see why the Q5 has been popular with owners who value a premium feel and everyday practicality.
There are trade-offs, though. The first-generation Q5 does not have the strongest reliability reputation, with excessive oil consumption and failing timing chains among the more notable concerns, especially on 2.0T models. Some owners also report rattling or leaking panoramic sunroofs and noisy suspension caused by failing control arms. Even so, for shoppers who prioritise comfort, quality, and a well-appointed cabin, the 2016 Audi Q5 remains an appealing used luxury SUV.

Love love love this car. Was shopping for this and Mazda Cx-5 Grand Touring. The Audi Q5 was so much more solid in both town and freeway test drive.

This car has it all. Immaculate attention to detail. Drivability. Easy access and parking. Amazing performance. And ultra reliability combined with the efficiency of a TDI engine make it one of (if not #1) the ultimate road going vehicles you can buy.

I ended up purchasing a 2017 Q5 and absolutely LOVE it! I compared it to a BMW X3, which was also a beautiful vehicle but for my business I need a slightly larger vehicle and the Audi Q5 is perfect. Plus I actually like the features more and the style. It drives like a dream!

How much does the 2016 Audi Q5 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $13,478 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $13,353 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $16,806 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $16,651 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −19.06% |
Prices have softened 19.06% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 154 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2016 Audi Q5 a good car?
Yes — the 2016 Audi Q5 earns a 4.7/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its smooth driving experience, superb interior quality, and spacious, premium-feeling cabin. It also fits well if you want a compact luxury SUV that feels refined and practical for everyday use. With 33.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.
Is the 2016 Audi Q5 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable in daily use, with a smooth, trouble-free feel and a premium cabin that holds up well over time. That said, used buyers should still pay close attention to maintenance history, because long-term ownership risk can rise if prior care was inconsistent.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Audi Q5?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy if you’re comparing multiple listings.
- Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 154 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 19.06% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $13,353 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Audi Q5's resale value?
The current average of $13,478 CAD sits slightly below last year's $16,651 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favourable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means resale expectations should stay realistic unless the vehicle has exceptional condition and service records. Because the model still attracts shoppers looking for a premium interior and a smooth driving experience, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Audi Q5 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 19.06% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a well-equipped compact luxury SUV with a premium cabin and strong owner approval, the 2016 Q5 is the right direction to start. If your priority is stretching your budget further, you may want to compare nearby model years and focus on the best-priced, best-maintained example rather than the newest badge alone.
